ElvisThePelvis
A very poor day today lead me to question things many and various. Thanks to advice on here I now have a flapper but only have 6 FUDS and 6 flocks which felt a bit under gunned today in the bleak wind swept wilds of Suffolk... Should I be adding to my decoy collection? Any views on silo sock vs flocks on Spring sticks vs FUDS? Thanks
oldypigeonpopper
hello, did you shoot any pigeon to put in the pattern, ?
Cosd
I rarely start with more than a dozen decoys. The truth is there is no one method that works every time. So more decoys may not have necessarily helped. This time of year it isn't always easy to get them to decoy. The point of having masses of kit isn't to use it all every time, it merely gives you the ability to swap and change it to suit the day. Did you have a magnet or a flapper out? If you don't have either I'd put the money toward a magnet, others might say flapper. But you need some movement in your pattern IMHO
ElvisThePelvis
hello, did you shoot any pigeon to put in the pattern, ? Sadly no, nothing in range really plus on that wind today they were mega fast, only fired 5 cartridges and two of those were ground game (Rabbit and Hare). I might start saving for a magnet, there is limit to how much stuff I want to carry though, it's a long walk from the car..

It's really difficult to assess without actually being there. It's also possible that you did nothing wrong and no amount of gear would have enticed them in!! aga man
Pigeon bouncers or floaters as they are also called are a useful addition to the kit, not only lightweight but present a dead pigeon very well at distance and naturally add movement when extended. A magnet is a big help at this time of year for pulling pigeons in from range but bouncers would be my second choice. I use mine all year round. I understand, there are so many variables. I did adjust the pattern a couple of times, (I moved location after lunch) really happy with hide and pattern ( in the end) I don't try bringing the flapper in or moving it, that could have been a mistake as it was blowing in the wind when not flapping.. Where would you site it? I put it in the pattern near the front. It's the first time in nearly a year I have successfully decided pigeons.. We were in the right spot, I have seen pigeons there before, rape damage, walked off about 200 pigeons before setting up... And NADA! I guess the gas guns nearby and flags on the flight line in other fields weren't helping too..
TIGHTCHOKE
I carry 27 shell decoys and two sillosocks that are used as bouncers. I also carry 18 crows if likely to find corvids. If there are two of us the amount of pigeon shells will double.

aga man
You can find bouncers on ebay, i only ever use dead birds on mine. Try to keep a coulpe in the freezer if you can, just wrap them in bin bags and tell the mrs it's fishing bait. Defrost them the night before and your good to go

ElvisThePelvis
Where in the country are you? Could you ask a PW friend to go out with you? Hi, I'm on Essex/Suffolk border, went with a friend today who set up on the other side of the field with the intention of moving the birds around, which we did, they just never came back... He did no better than me..
