squirrelhall
Hi. After a scare last week when car broke down, but managed to get to a garage, I am thinking of taking out cover. Are the budget companies any good or do you get what you pay for. Any one had any experiances with them
panoma1
I think they are very much the same, the smaller names mostly use the bigger players to provide breakdown services on their behalf!
Lloyd90
Check the cost Some bank accounts when upgraded give you bonuses such as phone insurance, travel insurance and breakdown cover, if it's cheaper then you get the others as a bonus too! Just worth considering
VicW
Decide exactly what you want from breakdown cover before trawling the net for prices. For instance do you need cover while still at home , are you going to travel abroad? Do you just want breakdown cover or would you like recovery to your destination or back home? I have used Brittania Rescue for many years but only used them once when a head gasket failed, their performance was faultless and they still get good write-ups. I pay about £75/year for breakdown and recovery away from home. Vic.
sandspider
autoaidbreakdown.co.uk Been with them for years and they're good. £39 a year I think. They use local recovery firms, and occasionally you have to pay the firm then claim the cash back from Autoaid. In practice though, they just generally charge autoaid directly. Just worth considering I'm no longer a taxidriver, I'm a breakdown/recovery vehicle operator,Be aware that coverage provided or included as a freebie/bonus add on to a bank/building society account can often be very basic and sometimes critically minimal, often giving a basic 10mile recovery only and you pay for mileage in excess of this. Current market leaders are the likes of LV, Britannia Rescue, Allianz, Mondial Assistance. Edited February 26, 2016 by TaxiDriver
smokinggun
I'm with Rac and when I called them I only had to sit on the side of the road for 4 hours, I probably could have just walked home quicker.
