are these the new rules which start on the 1st april??

Have you actually read this thread from the beginning, or are you just trolling ?

Or have you read the new rules ? Because they really do make it very clear who will be paying, and under what circumstances.

And the BASC letter - AND all the copies on the police websites, is VERY clear.

The new system will apply to every application for the grant or renewal of a firearm or shotgun certificate in England and Wales on or after 1 April 2016.

So if your application went in before then, the new rules do not apply. There's nothing rocket science about it.

Oh, I think it's becoming pretty obvious why a report was required, in your case !

I've said it. David has said it. I'll say it again. I'll try again, and see if it sinks in.

Previously, there was nothing which said who was responsible for the payment of a doctor's report. As such, various police forces made it up as they went along. Some would pay for it, some insisted on you paying for it.

From now on, it is very clear who is responsible for the report, and it depends on when in the process it is asked for. But this new guidance only applies to renewals or new applications sent in from 1st April.

If that is not absolutely clear to you, then I can entirely understand why the police want a report on your suitability to have SGC/FAC !

And for the record, regardless of what any of you think, no one at BASC has ever pushed for a ban on lead, indeed much to the contrary, but if some of you feel the need to start yet another thread peddling conspiracy theories feel free

Wymberley - et al - for the record, It has never been BASC's policy to ban lead shot nor has BASC ever pushed for a ban on lead shot

I was going to let this go as I've said more than enough really, off topic, but I don't recall saying it was BASC's policy to ban lead. However, I can certainly remember stating my suspicions of BASC's involvement in the lead shot issue.

Saying that, despite the claim underlined above, wasn't Swift CEO of BASC when he became chairman of the LAG in March 2010? The first meeting of LAG was in 2010 if I recall, and Swift remained CEO of BASC until 2013. Didn't Swift push for a lead shot ban? Didn't he make recommendations to DEFRA that lead shot was indeed injurious to human health and wildlife to the extent it should be banned, as Avery and Pain had in effect claimed back in 2009 or whenever?

I must thick as poo then. I still don't get it.

My certificates expire may 15th ie after april 1st. But I sent my forms off 15th february.

So will the police treat it as after 1st april as they are running nine months behind anyway (Essex)

Is 15th February before or after 1st April ?

You application was made BEFORE 1st April, so will come under the old system. If it had been made ON or AFTER 1st April, it would be under the new system.

i would have thought that as your renewal date is after 1st april then it will be the new system,

i sent my renewals in november as renewal date was 14th march,i had a letter from the firearms dept asking for a doctors report on the 12th march,my forms had been with firearms dept for 4 months and they then decided that they required a Dr's report 2 days before renewal date :hmm:,just because you haven't heard anything yet don't think all is ok :good:

Many thanks for clearing that up, David. The fact that it doesn't quite answer my question as it does not equate to the point you raised which gave rise to that (my) question is of no consequence. The inability to provide a simple, "yes" or "no" (one would have hoped for the former) is sufficient.

Yes.

This thread has answered the original point and is now moving into other areas.

It will now close.

Anybody wishing to debate lead shot issues, please take it to PM.
