New farm new foxes

One of the lads I shoot for mentioned that one of his family has 60 acres where the foxes are paying a bit to much of an interest to the lambs. He took me for a look around last Tuesday night but is a little to impatient and we only stayed up there for 10 minutes. I decided to go back Wednesday night for a better look. Walked into the first field and saw a fox heading off across the field. I had a better look and noticed a dead ewe that it had been eating. Scanned across the ground with the lamp and picked up the fox (or at least a fox) heading across towards me. Over to the NV ready for the shot but no safe shot. After 30 seconds I could see that the fox was heading to the dead ewe but I couldnt get a shot as there were ewes and lambs in the way. To get a shot I needed to make up 20 yards so I could shoot off the gate post but that would make the shot about 40 yards...way to close. It didnt help that the track was shale so not exactly quiet and it was a still night. Well to my surprise when I got to where I needed to be and rested on the gate post and turned on the NV the fox was sat looking at me. He was stopped by an 80 grain soft point to the chest. Good size dog fox.

Quick text to the farmer and a good start on a new piece of ground.

Well done Mike :good: you want to get a bayonet fitted to rifle for them close one's, for a young chap like u should be able to run and stab it to death, bit hard for me and my zimmer frame  ATB Terry

:lol::lol: I may get a sharp stick or a catapult. The range you drop them at Terry I dont think you need to worry about moving away from the zimmer frame

Leggy one Mike.

40yds, too close!

I would of shot that with my 22 doing a handstand reciting the periodic table, strong eye blindfolded!

no need to show of now U. I normally miss the ones at close range

Always good to get off to a good start on a new perm .... :good:

Cheers Mark. Takes the pressure off a little.
