wymberley
The answer is between you and your rifle. For example, the Remington in my Anschutz is superb, but see Paul above.

rayhallam
not picking cause they're cheap but i have heard good about hornaday and cci are half as much again. the origional question was between hornaday and remington which are cheaper than the hornaday but just paying more for the fact that dearer is better isn't always the case. just out of interest do you shoot Edited March 31, 2016 by rayhallam
Dougy
Ray, You will most probably find that if you bought a box of all the different makes of 17HMR bullets they will all impact at different points on your target.

Dougy
I had a 17hmr 10 years ago so I'm out of touch with it but I used federals. Are they still about? Yes they are, i still have a Box from about 12 years ago, and they have not had one of them misfire of nearly 1000, so the excuse about old stock is a load of tosh when they say the misfires are from old stock

Never had a misfire but I didn't do a massive amount of rounds as I moved up to .223. Think I was paying £9.99 a box.

I was also told that all HMR 17gn were made in the same factory, just loaded into differently stamped cases. I await to be corrected! wymberley
in that case then why do they shoot differently, or am i missing something The one question that has never been asked/answered is whereas many brands are made at the one factory, to whose specification are these made? rjimmer
There has been a lot of talk about misfires and split cases, but someone posted somewhere that a certain make seemed to be free of such trouble. I can't remember for sure, but it may have been Winchester.
Dasher
All assembled in the same place using the same heads and propellant, I guess the cases are "maker" stamped before filling (for obvious reasons!) but weather the cases are actually identical I don't know so it could be that the cases are different with some being stronger than others hence one make having a better reputation.........all assumptions are just that!!!
