maxwell
I had an invite off my mate to shoot over beans but our plan was washed out earlier with the weather so today with a good forecast we arrived at the field for 7 and watched,my mate took the main flight line with me more than happy to take the secondary running along the edge of the wood, my bag was 8 jacks 8 crows and 21 pigeon with 1 jack lost in cover
JDog
Good outing. I have seen a similarly marked Jackdaw.

Yes with a bit of luck as there are a lot of beans on the surface. This was the first time on beans for me it's mostly rape, barley or wheat round here, do the pigeon generally like to leave them a while ? One things for certain pigeons love beans and if you have a good few on the surface there's a very good chance they will return for them. WelshMike
Nicely done mate. I shot a carrion crow with white wing feathers last year.
getthegat
Hi, can anyone tell me what of the bean plants, pigeons eat? I have a small farm shoot near to me with basically two very large fields. One is sown for wheat (had a great couple of hours there this morning on the crows and jackdaws with the Mossy Hushpower) the other has beans that are close to coming to flower. Do pigeons eat the flowers or do I need to wait till after the harvest and hope for a load of wasted beans on the ground before getting a few shots? Cheers

Cheers With beans pigeons only eat the seed itself so apart from when they are sown up until they chit and when they are harvested pigeons aren't generally interested in bean plants unless the seeds are falling out of the pods near harvest. getthegat
Great. Thanks for the intell. Was nice to get a few hours on the crows and a surprise to see mallard, shell duck, a hare, pheasant and partridges and two big *** Canada Geese flew over at one point. Obviously didn't put the gun up for anything other than the corvids and the one pigeon. Good mix of nature though. Loved being out for the first time in my 1984 VW ex German military double cab truck. Tons of room for the shooting gear and with the newly modified turbo motor producing just over double the horsepower and double the torque, it's a cool workhorse.
