Jay_Russell
I'm thinking about selling my AYA 1973 25 sidelock. I shot okish with it in the season just got gone, but I shot much better with a borrowed miruku because it was much heavier it definitely improved my swing. Now my AYA needs a bit of love in my opinion has thin bluing, the stock could probably need an oiling and the striker in the 2nd barrel needs replacing as it protrudes if dry fired although it's fine when in use. There's also barrel pitting which I've had checked by two gun smiths and both said it's fine and plenty of metal left if a lap was wanted Should I get all the work done then try to sell/swap or leave it as it is? ElvisThePelvis
Try Radcliffes, you will get an honest view on what needs doing and what value it will add, their work is very good and reasonable, they may even trade it for you. Jay_Russell
He's one of the gunsmiths that checked it over for me. In fact they originally sold the gun when it was new!
rimfire4969
I used to have a xxv and regret selling it even after about 5 years. I do some walked up shooting for woodcock and pheasant and it would be the perfect gun for the job. When I see one local to me I will certainly look into buying it. Jay_Russell
Yep, dry fired not a practice I condone myself without snap caps. I had a chap interested in it just before Xmas, that decided dry firing was an essential thing before a purchase. I wasn't impressed and told him so. He quickly left+

Brixsmaid
Love the AYA XXV S/l - You could join the AYA owners group uk on Facebook and ask the many owners on there the same questions - they seem quite helpful from what I have read. Jay_Russell
Hi Brix, I'm already a fan of that page. And I asked the chap that runs it before when I was thinking of selling it. Basically said it's up to me lol. I'm not sure what it's worth as is as 25inch sbs doesn't have a lot of following at the moment. I'd just be happy enough to get enough to pay for a heavier 12g o/u game or sporter gun

My son had the same SL model and traded it some years ago - wish I'd taken it off his hands!! I guess get a price from the professionals in the trade with and without the work and see if it's worth it. Sorry I can't help with anymore useful info! Gunman
Boring is based on time , strikers are not problem as they are bought in from ASI but do need to be fitted .Best have both checked . £100 should cover it .
