Sportingrodandgun
Afternoon Everybody, As I'm now well into that dull interlude between the end of the shooting season and the start of the cricket season, I've been watching and reading a fair bit of duck related material! In the USA and South America, I've often seen them using a, quite frankly, ridiculous looking decoy comprising of a duck on a pole with battery operated spinning wings. Having said that, it does seem to do the trick in pulling the birds in on videos I've seen. Has anyone ever tried one over here?
edenman
Aye, was more hassle it was worth. Shoot just as much if not more with static decoys to be honest.
motty
I have used them to good effect on the marsh and inland.
anser2
A friend used to use them , but when we were shooting a few hundred yards apart and I was using floating decoys and he had a mojo spining wing decoy as well as floaters there was no difference between each others bags over the course of the season. nic
the wind powered ones were on sale in decathlon in france for a few quid, i think it was less than a tenner each..... don't know if decathlon over here does them.

TONY R
A question, I have 1 spining wing decoy, it came with some decoys i bought second hand, but i have never used it. I am not sure it is legal to use it in the uk, I thought for waterfowl it was illegal to use any mechanical means to hunt them, Hense no ellectronic speakers etc and no mechanical decoys. if they were powered by wind they were ok but not mechanical in any way. Is this how others read the law or have i got it all wrong.
subsonicnat
The Electric one's are deadly on a sparse duck day. Seen them in action more than once,Not by any means illegal, some clubs frown on them but allow wind type, I think its mainly because they don't own them,or never used them, ethicly its your choice but they did seem to commit very easily to the electric one's,almost to easily.. Big bags were never my forte,
Pushandpull
It is illegal to use a sound recording, to use a mechanically propelled vehicle (i.e. car or boat) in direct pursuit, or to use an electrical device for killing, stunning or frightening. So they are not illegal. The ethical arguments can be found via some U.S. sources as they was a lot of controversy over them at one time. greylag
I can not see any problem in using these wind powered decoys. They are there to do the same thing as a string of floating decoys. It is up to the individual wildfowler as to the ethics of them.Personally I can see nothing wrong in using them if they are used responsibly and not to make large bags.Just to drag a few in is pleasure enough.
