Bobba
Could someone with a knowledge of dog breeds advise me please on what breed of dog is featured in The Durrells (ITV 8 pm tonight). I wonder whether it is a lurcher? Thanks.
sitsinhedges
Looks like a deerhound x greyhound type lurcher.
Winston72
Looks like a whittled down Irish Wolfhound to me
jonny thomas
Are you allowed to whittle wolfhounds? Seems like something the rspca would be interested in to me

figgy
I'd say Irish Wolfhound cross looking at it.
Stephimoon
I think it's a Bedlington x Whippet. We've been looking to get one and as soon as I saw her, I thought that's what she must be.
loriusgarrulus
If it's big it could be a bedlington cross greyhound as they are a popular cross for a lurcher.
loriusgarrulus
The info is that the dog in the Durrels is a lurcher bitch called Mossup. She is a rescue lurcher who stands 22 inches tall. She has starred in a number of roles. Looking at bitch heights for Bedlingtons, Whippets and Greyhounds at 22 inches Mossup is large for a bedlington or whippet so I could be a greyhound bedlington cross. Both crosses will produce dogs similar to Mossup. The whippet cross should be smaller. Just to add to the mix Bedlington show dogs tend to be small but the breed line used for hunting are often much larger.
