Laser eye surgery

I went to Optimax in Manchester, just after they opened there, in the 90's. I can honestly say that it transformed my life and I never looked back (sorry). As you can see it only improved my eyesight and not my humour. I have recently suffered a detached retina in my left eye, but the Surgeon assured me that it had nothing to do with the laser surgery. I have never spoken to anyone who, having had laser surgery, has suffered any ill effects. Of course I have heard all of the stories about a friend of the next door neighbours cat, who grew a pair of boobs after laser surgery, so think carefully !

P.S.

You will need reading glasses and I have several pairs of the cheapo's for fishing etc. as well as prescription reading glasses, I just try not to read in the rain.

Manchester is the one I'm booked in at, I can deal with reading glasses but shooting in the rain with glasses is a bloody nightmare ! Even with glasses my eyesight is awful !

I have tried all the different contact lenses and things as needed glasses since I was about 8 and now I am 26. I don't think I would be too bothered about glasses if I wasn't so blind, I literally couldn't tell if it was my wife or another women laying next to me in bed.....that's my excuse and I am sticking to it :)

I will look into moorefileds as well, the price certainly won't be too much of a consideration. Main concern is the level of care/aftercare and experience of the surgeons that's most important to me.

The Mrs and a number of others have had it done and rave about it, best thing ever etc etc etc. An eye surgeon I met wore glasses so I raised the question of why he didn't have lazer surgery; His reply was "not a chance" it seems he wasn't a fan and didn't trust the procedure.

I found that quite telling and being a soft southerner will continue to wear glasses

I give blood.

As the nurse stuck a needle in my finger she said "you are brave"

When I asked why she said "I couldn't do it, am afraid of needles"

The 'all doctors wear glasses' line gets rolled out in every one of these threads, but the numbers of satisfied customers just keeps on going up and up and up

To OP, don't let anyone talk you into anything, have good hard think about it and do your research.

My only comment would be you seem quite young, I would ask what bearing that has on prescription changing etc

It's not a line, he was sat in front of me having a pint and he genuinely didn't like the procedure. On balance he is in the minority and o know many many people who have had it done without issues, in fact I don't know anyone who has has an issue .

I'd love to get my eyes fixed, started wearing glasses in my early teens, got contacts as was big on contact sports, but have always had to spend money on glasses, lenses, and leaving the house means having some kind of paraphernalia with me.

On the other hand, I'm a London cabbie, and if my eyes were damaged, I'd lose my job, which wouldn't go down too well, as I've just become the sole wage earner.

Reckon if I did get them done, I'd go to Moorfields, why not use the best when your eyes are at stake?

A very rich local man has just had eye surgery that's gone wrong in one eye, he's had to go to therapy on this eye and his sight has started getting better, he said he went to the best ? It goes to show it can go wrong where ever you go, but it doesn't really put me off for some reason

It should go wrong less often at an eye hospital. And if it does you're in the right place, the discounters (depending on the issue) will refer to the nhs.

I preferred to be talking to the man who would sort any problems should they occur and was happy(ish) to pay for that.
