You must add about 10% fatty pork like belly or they will be as dry as toast. Cheers mate. Good timing I have just bought a mincer for the purpose. I have a bbq session in the summer with camping in the garden so need to make a few. Was going to try some sausage. I have the inlaws over from SK over in a few weeks they never rest and are always looking for things to do so expecting a demonstration. racing snake
Nice work again Mike, Dougy and Remmy. I went out last night, saw a fox, called it in, and missed it. Don't want to elaborate. Just a tip for those who suffer from light rain on IR lazer. It really ruined the night when I had drizzle on my dragonfly, so the 1st option was to fit a butler flip cap on the end. It sorted it momentarily but when I opened it I still had the same problem. So I had a search around to see if I could find some tubing to put over the end to keep it sheltered. I found a company that deals with Auto hoses, http://www.autosiliconehoses.com a perfect fit and what I thought was a reasonable price. It had its 1st outing last night, a bit of light drizzle, and not any issues. Hi Dougy, couple of questions re the Dragonfly. I've been mulling one of these over for the Drone for an age but a couple of things have held me back. Mainly is trying to actually get hold of one off Starlight, what kind of wait did you have with it. The other one is, do you run it without the eye-safe filter on it, or have you tried it without it? I keep hearing you need to run it without it to get the best out of it, but I'd be really worried about doing that.

Getting hold of Starlight is of course an issue, I've had a few little problems myself but they do actually seem to care and once you do get in touch I find them very helpful. Don't give up. I think it was a pretty quick turn round a week maybe, but they do build in house once the products get to them. I do have a filter in, not sure what colour (not blue maybe brown) due to my disabilities (I'm colour blind). It will enable me to I'd a fox out to over 300yds, no idea what it's like without a filter but I would imagine it would probably be too much. That's with an Archer not sure what it's like with digital. Eye safe filter or not I still would recommend staring into it. So it really makes no difference, unless your prematurely concerned about the fox's eye sight before you send a vmax.

No not really concerned about the foxes eyesight, but I just know I'll accidentally look at it at some stage and I'm worried I'd end up like Mr Magoo. WelshMike
Break in the weather on Saturday night so over to one of my older permissions. The farm is a sheep farm and the owner hates foxes with an absolute passion. I keep on top of the foxes pretty well so wasnt expecting to see much. Parked up in the yard and walked through the first gate and about 15 yards into the field. Flicked the torch around and picked up a fox straight away. Lay down behind the rifle, NV on and there was the fox curled up in the field about 60 yards away. . 58 grain .243 round away and goodnight mr fox. Nice and easy. Carried on round the farm for an hour or so, saw 1 on next doors ground but it wasnt interested in any type of call and wouldnt cross the boundary onto my ground. Headed back up to pick up the fox and noticed a flash of eyes on the yard below the farm buildings....another fox. Now this fox wouldnt budge. I tried every call on the Icotec caller, hand calls the lot....wouldnt move and I couldt get any sort of safe shot from any angle due to where he was sat. What should I do?? I phoned the farmer and asked him to come out and make some noise to scare the fox. So there I am with the rifle on the sticks about 50 yards away waiting and watching the fox....gate opens...fox looks up..farmer makes some noise...fox trots along the bank then down the bank...couple of loud shouts from me and he keeps trotting to make his escape....have to take the shot while the fox is on the move...bullet away and down goes the fox...thank god. Farmer comes down and we have a good laugh at what has just happened,...foxes up trees....farmers having to scare foxes...what is going on 2 nice dog foxes down and a very happy farmer . Over to the second small farm that the farmer owns. Up to the top of one field with a good view over the land. Caller on with a mix of vixen and gekkering...flash of eyes in the corner about 150 yards away. By the time I had the rifle set up I couldnt see the fox so flicked the light again...the fox was about 70 yards away and the top side of me. Swapped position and dropped her at about 60 yards. A very territorial vixen. 2 dogs and a vixen, 1 very happy farmer and back home by 10.15, all good . thanks mike good to be back at them out again this weekend so hopefully ill bump into some Fingers crossed mate
Hendrix's rifle
Haven't been out this weekend due to an injury but looks like everyone else is having fun! 2 of my perms are pretty quiet at the minute however there is a couple of fox barking across the way, these 2 perms are side by side and equal about 300 acres. Yesterday saw me going to the chap that owns the land on the end of these perms and he is more than happy for me to go and shoot these fox's that are barking because there eating his lambs and chickens. Only downside is I can't for 2 weeks or so as he doesn't want anyone around the sheep whilst there heavily in lamb which I can understand. To walk from one side of the perms to the very end is now about 3 miles or so and about 2 miles wide so plenty to be going at. Some woodland now, some Hill and some flat. Also spoke to the other farmer who I've known for years and he wants me to start culling some reds at some point in the not so distant future. (Within a year) best get a variation in for a .270 at some point and see what they say should be a good year 🖒 the land is bordering on a forest which is fc and a lot of the deer come from there into the remaining areas. Only issue is extraction will be a ball ache just as I was walking out after saying goodbye to the farmer there sat a fox about 300 yards on the hill barking... teasing me. Il get him next week! Interesting problem to have mate, sounds like some fun. Just a personal opinion but I would look at something other then a .270. I had one and despite being a hard hitting calibre the recoil and noise issues are not worth it IMO. I would look towards one of the 6.5 mm calibres such as 6.5 x 55 or 6.5 x 47 or look at a .243. A 105 grain round from a .243 will put any sort of deer on the deck if the shot is put in the right place.
Dougy
Forgot about this one. Went out Saturday night and spotted a pair of fox's running about at 300yds plus. I quickly put the caller out about 60 yds out and gave the mating call a blast, watching the pair through the thermal one ran in one direction and the other bolted towards a hedge that divided the fields. I lost it for a few moments then saw a heat signature to my right about 200yds. Disappeared again until it came up the tractor runs and stood watching, I muted the caller and it started to walk in with a little caution. Archer a day or on, safety off and a quick squeak from me stopping the fox I sent a 52 grain vmax to deliver the coup de-grace. Dog fox 150yds. Nice result mate. I agree with Mike the .270 is an awful round to shoot , I would go for .308 its a lot sweeter. Saying that I have shot all my Reds with .243 no problem. I once got invited to Macclesfield on the Reds ......couldn't believe it when I saw them wandering around , unfortunately I blanked due to the fog rolling in. Some big stags round there. Good luck, look forward to reading about your success with them.

Dougy
I think I will be out tonight, specially after receiving a text from Sparkie earlier today. Apparently a big black cat has been seen around my way, supposed to be a Panther. I think it will be the 30.06 leaving the cabinet tonight, I will ring one of my perms nearest the sighting. Thing is what call shall I use

If you do shoot it make sure its a solid chest shot so you can get a full taxidermy job, dont head shoot it,. On the other hand if you look at some of the pics of big cats and white foxes...it will be a domestic cat
oowee
Good work guys. Dougy I am surprised you don't already have a pussy caller? Out on Saturdya night everywhere. The best thing about the evening was the views from the top of the bales on the levels and from the hill top off the Mendips. It was such a quiet still and dark night. Very romantic unless you are out with my mate Bumpy At the last place where we nearly did not bother spotted one up in a tree and dropped it onto the top of the hedge below. The picture shows the fox on the hedge top (honest). Picture quality is even worse than usual.

Lol http://m.derbytelegraph.co.uk/black-panther-spotted-in-field-near-a38/story-30216648-detail/story.html Another load of manure, travelling along that road at even 60mph and seeing what he thinks is a Panther at 500yds he's doing bloody well. At 500yds with a naked eye I couldn't tell you if it was a fox or a buzzard in a field, and that's not at 60mph.
