Mike737
So, this morning I found a dead rabbit on my drive. My garden borders arable farmland, (my perm!!!) and the rabbit had part of its belly ripped out, and the uppermost eye missing. Looked otherwise healthy, no inflamation around the eyes etc. Now I've never seen a fox about, but I wondered what might have killed it. Mike. aga man
Could have been killed by any number of things, domestic cat , stoat etc. The missing eye etc suggests corvids have had a go at the body.

Mike737
Upper most eye Cyclops Okay, the upwards facing eye..., as it was lying on one side. Cyclops only had one eye, I think... Mike. Edited June 18, 2016 by Mike737
Wingman
Cat. My Bengal has brought rabbits back that looked they had been done over by Freddy Kruger.
ben0850
Not sure about your neck of the woods Mike but around here we used to have heaving rabbit numbers, a touch of mixi then the wet year of 2013 and the following snowy Spring thinned a lot. Now though I find a number of dead ones around and we have no 'older population' which makes me think we have VHD in this neck of the woods, could be something similar and the injuries are post death scavengers? harpoonlouis
I shot 6 rabbits in my paddock the other night and laid them out behind me, while I was quietly watching the hedgerow for number 7 a corvid pecked the eye out of one of them and opened up the guts without me hearing a thing, crafty begger
