Imperfection
The thing with chooks is they go downhill reallyyyyy fast so to put her out of her suffering was the kindest thing to do.
oowee
As soon as I see one not right its out with the air rifle nice and calm far side of the field. As imperfection says they don't last long when ill. I must say its a good thing for kids to be involved they learn so much about the circle life and takes much of the fear of things away through familiarity. southman1
Check for mites on the chickens and the pens if it's wood ,the mites can't live on the plastic pens

I always used an air rifle, but after posting on here about the best way to kill 20 geriatric hens the advice I adopted and that worked best for me is pin back the wings with one hand and clatter them hard with a priest on the head
Stonepark
Slide head with beak between fore finger and middle finger. Let go of body so weight is on neck, rotate hand 3 to 4 times quickly. Body takes while to catch up and snaps neck. Once you learn the technique the neck most often snaps on the second rotation.

four-wheel-drive
I tried the old trick to kill birds pull and twist there necks I tried it on a black bird the first time it did not work so I pulled a bit harder the next time that worked pulled its head off and made me feel sick other than shooting them I do not have much luck killing things by hand in the end it is all down to practice.
