Walker570
Yes, it takes something like this to pull us ALL back to our senses. We have to police ourselves on gun safety, so never feel embarrassed to ask someone with a closed gun if it is unloaded. It is only good manners to present your gun to anyone you approach and SHOW them it is unloaded. When I first went over to the USA (Texas) and we went out with guides, they just could not get their breath as to how safe we were. Opening the bolt and showing the rifle was empty prior to getting in a truck just blew their minds. Thankfully such happenings are very rare in the shooting world. Whatever, DO NOT CALL IT AN ACCIDENT, it was a careless/reckless discharge, the gun was loaded and was pointing at another person. While it's very likely that it happened that way lets not discount the fact the barrel may have had a blockage and as the gun was fired it simply blew up in the face of the shooter killing him

PS I didn't call it an accident the police did in other words it was not intentional. Accident. an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.
dob
Terrible news, I ave a relation who has a friend that sustained an injury to his head from the arm of a clay trap that required brain surgery and major skull reconstruction, don't know how it happened but seems that safety has been ignored at an organised clay shoot, perhaps a safety marshoall should be compulsory on each stand on big clay shoots.not good for the sport. Big Al
It was his own gun by the sounds of it. http://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/gun-death-at-clay-pigeon-shoot-in-downpatrick-was-tragic-accident-34908736.html Regardless of blame, it is still a tragic event. lincs1963
I'm struggling to see how you can 'accidentally' kill yourself with your own shotgun. I would have thought it would be reasonably diificult to do deliberately.
