roadkill
What does the voltage need to be to keep Mr Fox away? One pen is 7000v but the other two I can only get 3000v is this enough?
Walker570
I've known a badger bite a wire through at 3000 when it obviously bit him. Footprints and scuffle marks at scene told the story. A fox ain't so brave in my view. In dry weather I went round the wire with a watering can at night and made the ground real receptive :-) Obviously the sharper the better. TR1
Maybe drive in a decent earth stake. It should improve voltage if pen is not too large.
roadkill
I have long earth stakes in, will try and reposition them, would 3000v keep foxes away?
leadbreakfast
It's also good to put the ground on the pen fence aswell. Helps if your getting a bad earth they will know about it when the touch the fence
ColinF
What energiser are you using, have you looked to see what voltage it should be producing?
Arley
3000v will keep a fox away.
Alycidon
Long earth stake well watered in dry periods, never had anything get in under the wire. But cant stop Kites over the top. A
39TDS
I have a two wires running around the outside of my (goose) pen and connect the earth to the netting as well. Doesn't need watering as anything trying to climb over or under is going to touch the line and the netting at the same point. I touched it the other day by accident, I won't be doing that again in a hurry! One of the strongest belts I have had off a fence. (don't know what V)
Paul223
I earth to a stake and the pen fence, because that has much more ground contact plus any fox or badger getting between the two, even in the driest of years with get the full belt. All 3 of my pens show 8k volts, it's as high as the meter shows. All 3 run ESB57's and truck batteries, just the one charge at start of season! Be sure the wire is not getting shorted by damp here and there, good quality insulators and wd40 help.
rimfire4969
Bin the meter, Hold the wire with one hand and touch the ground with the other, this will then give you a rough idea of how much kick its got as your shoes can insulate you quite well

Your more than welcome to come along and test it, I'll give you £50 if you can empty your bladder peeing on it, wear whatever boots you like

Jim Neal
A decent setup should be topping 10,000v
