I parked in car park space and slipped getting out the car (it was wet and the paint denoting the spaces was slippy) with the effect my door hit the car next door leaving a 4mm x 3mm patch of my blue paint on their white door. No dent that I can see but the paint work was damaged. I have left a note with my details in a clear poly bag on their windscreen explaining what happened. I have photo's of the damage too. Cars owner and friends turned up at the colleages house demanding cash, which he didn't have immediate access to. Colleage ended up in hospital with 8 stitches to his head and multiple bruises! Going through the insurance benefits no one so ideally getting it sorted between the two of you would be best. Despite all the horror stories a few years ago I came out of a friends house and found my car with a broken headlight and a girl stood next to it writing out a note. She'd left her name and number on and was very apologetic, she'd reversed and hit my car. I thanked her for her honesty, told her I'd sort it as cheaply as possible. I found someone on a car forum selling the headlight i needed, picked it up and fitted it, £20. I messaged her to let her know and gave my bank details to transfer the money into. About a month later i was checking my statement and couldn't find any credit of £20 in there. I spoke to her again asking if she'd had a chance to pay the money yet, she said she had and to check around the 12th of the month (or something like that)I did, and the reason I hadn't spotted it was due to the fact she'd paid £25 to thank me for sorting it so cheaply for her! I'll be honest, if I wasn't with my girlfriend at the time I'd have given her a shout asking her if she fancied going for a drink (she was fit!) The damage you described can be easily sorted by a paint less dent removal guy and relatively cheaply. I'm dealing with these type of incidents daily so speak from experience. It's knowing the route to initially go down, phoning the insurance company can initiate a case that can affect your premiums for years. Compare that to the, let's say £70 dent repair, and it's a no brainer. Where are you based? I may be able to find a local PDR company to help you out. Funnily enough I had a letter from our insurers at work yesterday claiming one of our drivers had backed into a vehicle and left the scene without leaving a note. Really odd as it was from May and you would have thought had they got the number plate it would have come through a lot sooner. However the vehicles have trackers so easy to prove it wasn't the vehicle in question, made me wonder if it was a scam hoping we had foegotten where the vehicle was Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

four-wheel-drive Posted August 13, 2016 Report Share Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) There are companies that specialise in repairing small dents and scratches I do not think that they charge to much they will come to your house or place of work with all that they need to do the job in a little van even have a little tent to put over the car if the weather is bad. Much better than going through the insurance and risking your no claim bonus also a good idea to have lots of photos then they cannot get away with charging you for damage that had nothing to do with you.
