rich1984
Looking to get a scope for a hatsan at44. I think im going for a nikko sterling mount master, im just unsure as to which one, the 3-9x50 or the 4-12×50. Will be mainly for pest control out to 35yrds. I just want the clearest/biggest picture possible. Never have been able to get my head around numbers.... Thanks
winnie&bezza
The 4-12 has higher magnification as it starts at x4 mag- x12 magnification. Both have a 50mm lense.
Walker570
Very little difference. On an air rifle I would choose the x3 scope for that tiny bit better close range cover. I don't think the rat will notice the difference.
7daysinaweek
as walker suggests, little difference will be gained on an air rifle, the 3-9 will fit all of your needs. atb 7diaw
oldypigeonpopper
hello, buy a 3x9x50 hawke scope, for that range i would just get a standard front lens so all in focus, zero a 25 yards and use hold over/under on reticule Edited October 24, 2016 by oldypigeonpopper

I just dont want to buy twice. There is about £10 difference in price. No quibble warranty is a bonus though.
Salop Matt
4-12x50 would be where I would spend my cash. This way you have 10x mag which is where mil dots are true. I use 10x for all my HFT and hunting. ATB Matt

Walker570
I didn't mention Hawkes because you appeared to have made the choice. I have six Hawkes on various rifles including their long eye relief illuminated reticule model on my 8x57 double rifle. I have had one where the reticule seemed to jump when I adjusted it. Still held zero but shipped it back to Deben and was surprised just how long I had been in possession and knew how much work it had done being banged about in the Land Rover and numerous overseas air trips. I find them all very good at the price and the air rifle models are all singing all dancing. Your choice. The reticules on my scopes stay focussed throughout the zoom range so cannot understand one comment regarding this. Either scope range will work fine. It is really then down to personal choice. Thanks, it seems the Hawkes have a good following and a good reputation .
GingerCat
4x40 did me just fine for 15 years or so. I'm sure either will be more than you need out to 40 or so yards.
Longbower
I lost a turret cap, of my Hawke map 3x9 x50 , phone Deben and they sent me two F.O.C. Good reliable scopes .
