Scully
There have been JW in our small market town from when I was at school. Back then they owned our local chippy, and very good it was too, but the couple who owned it left after coming under heavy criticism for not allowing one of their children to have a blood transfusion. I can't recall the details nor do I recall the outcome. As school kids we were very jealous of the fact that Stewart got out of assembly each morning, and the fact that they all seemed to have mopeds! I know quite a few of them and they seem like ordinary nice people; the only facet of their religion I don't like is their sinister habit of recruiting from those who have recently experienced some trauma of some kind. I couldn't recall them ever calling at my house, but within two weeks of one of our children dying they were round. Word gets around small towns very quickly and they opened their conversation with condolences for our loss, but weren't impressed with my opinion of what happens to us when we die. I know of a local woman who was recruited shortly after her husband left her, and had to laugh when a former workmate whose wife had just left him, told his 'visitors' it was 'the best thing that had ever happened to him' when they called to offer their support! mossy835
I had a few used to call by too! I don't mind the banter! And if it was this time of year, often invited them in for a cuppa! They were very respectful, and just asked if they could leave a little literature for me to browse through! I don't mind them at all. Much rather have the JW at the door than many other salesmen, market researchers, charity groups begging for donations etc! +
Pistol p
My mum invites them in for tea and biscuits as she's lonely. The other day she went into the kitchen to get the biscuits, when she came back in they'd done a runner!.
Wilksy II
I was loading up the pickup for a decoying session once and a young Californian lad ask if I needed any help, I said I was fine cheers and he asked what I had in the bag? Pigeon decoys I said, oh you're a hunter! I love hunting me and my dad hunt whitetails and turkey back home! End up up having a good natter, god didn't get a mention, as said above friendly polite people those morons! I mean Mormons!
Imperfection
I've learned that the easiest thing is to smile and just politely say no thank you. You wont change their belief anymore than they of you.
kyska
How far would they go for their beleifs, they would rather let their child die rater than receive a blood transfusion. They donate a percentae of their income to the cause. If they got told to jump off a cliff, would they? Or worse'harm others'if told to. Unfortunately many witnesses refuse certain medical treatments, whether they decide their beliefs extend to their children, who knows. I'd imagine letting a child die, because of their parents belief would be very illegal. I didn't think we're allowed to discuss religion on PW any more. Lord O War
I don't think Doctors can treat anyone without consent. If a child comes in with a life threatening condition and the parents refuse treatment then the hospital will seek legal intervention. Anyway that's all my Casualty based legal background used up now

If a child comes in with a life threatening condition and the parents refuse treatment then the hospital will seek legal intervention. Anyway that's all my Casualty based legal background used up now In an emergency a doctor can treat a child without parents permission, more importantly against parents wishes. A parent has no right to decide to omit treatment to allow a child to die in an emergency. What do they do then? Disown their child as a devil?
