fortune
This isn''t as simple as it sounds. first you will have to be a member of said club for a period of time before they will say that you are a full member then you will have to wait X time to get your cert.Up to a year in some places. When you have got a cert it will have a condition for approved ranges only. AND if you stop going to the club when you have got the cert, the club is duty bound to notify plod that you are no longer attending. so if you have got a weapon you will have to go back to a club pretty pronto or find land to use it on and get the conditions changed. By the time all of this has happened you will have a long grey beard thats if you haven't got one already All of this boils down to good reason to have a part 1. if youve got land your well on the way. moorvale55
Very much with Fortune on this, if you join a club you won't get expanding ammunition and will only be allowed to shoot on approved ranges. Get some land and take it from there.
Breastman
Really?? People are advocating just getting on some land and 'teaching' yourself over tuition from people who actually know what they're doing at a rifle club Doing that is also even less likely to be successful as these days the police would ask for 'mentor' conditions, starting off with rimfire first etc. Becoming a member of a club and being shown the ropes is by far the easiest and safest way of getting into rifle shooting (IMO). Most clubs operate a 3-6 month probationary period to make sure you're not a looper and to get you up to speed with handling firearms. Shotguns and rifles are very different beasts. Blundy
Thx , I'm aware of probation period of 3/6 months which I understand why is done etc . As never used rimfires etc would appreciate the tuition if totally honest then one day hopefully get some nice person on here perhaps to offer me to tag along on their permission ( hint hint)

Danger-Mouse
A couple of options for you. If you just want .22 RF then you could join at Sycamore in Sheffield. If you`re wanting full bore then there`s The Boar at Glossop.

I would only join a club if i wanted to do or shoot something that i needed to be in a club to do. If you join a club and get your firearms for club use, then you will only be able to shoot them at the club. The title of this thread is >> Copied. Looking to join rifle club (in order to get fac) The operative phrase is >> (in order to get fac) It doesnt refer to join a rifle club to gain experience. I am a member of a rifle club and it is quite common for people to come along and openly state that the are only wanting to join the club for a short period to get a cert and buy a gun. They dont want to shoot competition cards or be a member of the club and they havent got land to shoot over so I dont understand quite what the want a gun for. unless they are going to sit in front of the tv and aim up on people on the screen or they think they need one to defend against the bad guy or the zombie invasion. And all that mentoring nonsense is supposed to have been scrapped as an unworkable minefield. Sometimes they ask if someone will act as a supervisor for a while as in the case of my son in law. but that was only on the 243 and 308. Yes joining a club is good but only if you want to shoot at a club and be a part of the club activities and not just use it to get a cert.
