Bobba
My bottle of Parker-Hale walnut oil is coming to an end. Out of curiosity does anyone know if there is any material difference between PH walnut oil from gunshops and walnut oil from supermarkets? Certainly wouldn't risk problems to the woodwork which I reworked myself. Not penny pinching. Just curious. Thanks.
TIGHTCHOKE
I would think that the Walnut Oil used for cooking would me much lighter and thinner than the type used for walnut gun stocks.
hawkfanz
dont no what the difference is but ive used morrisons walnut oil on my guns, seems to work ok but maybe not on "best" guns.
panoma1
If it's 100% pure walnut oil I can't see a problem?.............If it's got other ingredients there may be?
Westward
Why not just get some proper stock oil? It may seem expensive but it lasts for years. Alternatively use boiled linseed. A £5 bottle will last about 200 years. I wouldn't use anything made by B-C or from the supermarket on a nice stock.
figgy
The stock walnut oil has driers and hardeners added to it,the supermarket stuff is refined for cooking and eating as a dressing. Any walnut oil is better than none at all on a dry stock.
Bewsher500
its not "walnut oil" per se ...as opposed to "oil for walnut" You will find its mostly boiled linseed with a variety of other additions Philipps Walnut Oil Preparation is also useful and cheap if you cant be bothered to make some to a recipe
