UKPoacher
There are two types of insurance; annual and lifetime. Annual insurance can be cancelled by the insurance company or they can make exceptions for future payments if a dog suffers an expensive problem. Lifetime cover does not exclude future payments so is better but more expensive. Some supermarkets such as M&S and Saisburys do or did offer very good policies. My wife used to deal with insurance claims for a large veterinary practice and most of their staff were with either Pet Plan or Direct Line because they provided the best cover. billytheghillie
forget dog insurance, they will wriggle out of every claim if they can. a better way is to put by £10 or £20 a month ( I do £20) end of year £ 240 if not used it, to date I have £720 in the doggie account, if not needed, new gun for me

She had no problems with insurance companies paying up providing the clients had not breached any of the terms and conditions. On a day to day basis virtually every claim was honoured. The only notable exceptions were when clients had failed to declare known pre-existing conditions. Your £720 would be totally wiped out if the dog got injured on the road, or suffered a serious illness. My own dog isn't insured as there doesn't seem to be any available in France. We've just forked out €300 for treatment for kidney failure and the cost of feeding her now, plus medication, will be €100+ a month. Back in the UK Pet Plan would have covered the full cost of treatment and also the prescribed diet and medicines for the rest of her life. rimfire4969
I don't pay for insurance for my Springers. My eldest dog at 10 has only ever had some stitches or staples the other one nothing and long may it continue. To insure them both about £50 per month, £600 per year. If you can find a 2 or 3 grand without it affecting daily life I would not bother, if you can't, get insurance for peace of mind.

It's a rare accident but that's why I have cover. On that front personally I would mainly want cover for accidents rather than lifetime cover. That can be hideously expensive and can keep going up. What has impressed me with pet plan is though she is 9 now and had. 3k claim the cost hasn't gone up hugely
telf
when we had our lab she was insured from being a pup to the age of ten, when i forgot to renew it,at the age of eleven she had to haver an operation ,as she wasnt insured i had a bill of £1300 which we obviously paid, she lived another five years. It was worth every penny, but had i been insured the money would still have been in the bank, once bitten twice shy my friend we now have a teckel and shes insured through petplan,£31 a month, but i will renew it every year
