Beardo
Industrial giant Ineos has announced plans to build a new 4x4 off-road vehicle inspired by the discontinued Land Rover Defender. Ineos said it hoped to build the vehicle in northern England, creating jobs, and that it expected to spend hundreds of millions of jobs on the project. Ineos said its vehicle would not be a replica of the Defender but "reflect its philosophy", with a target market including agriculture and forestry workers as well as "traditional Defender fans that simply enjoy an authentic 4x4 driving experience". full story... http://news.sky.com/story/plans-for-new-4x4-inspired-by-land-rover-defender-10766721
Red-dot
Six month old "news". Ratcliffe tried to buy the assembly line but JLR has a home for it. Poland or India but the Polish deal fell through.

HDAV
UMM has this not been tried before? The range of "Road legal" Agri vehicles is growing and expanding far beyond the humble tractor and quad bike........... Far less legislation in that sector I think..... Brodie
The recent press article I saw quoted likely prices in the £40-50,000 range! Surely hardly the agricultural and forestry worker market.
UKPoacher
I can't see how there can be a gap in the market. After all Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan have all got variants of 4x4s that fit mist criteria.
four-wheel-drive
I just caught the end of this on the news yesterday it sounded to me as if it is going to be a cross between a Defender and Discovery . As fare as I now the only 4x4 that still has two solid axles is the good old Jeep wrangler now that the Defender is no more almost all 4x4s seem to have independent front suspension. four-wheel-drive
......and drum brakes and leaf springs!! You really need to stop reading so many 1950 mags Jeeps have moved on a long time ago having said that you would be hard pushed to beat a 1940s jeep off road even today. four-wheel-drive
Jimny has two solid axles. Yes but I was talking about full size cars/trucks not toy cars I now that they are very good off road but only girls and tiny people look good driving one. :whistling: Perhaps it would be an idea if instead of making tiny trucks for mine people they made proper full size ones then perhaps they would be on to a winner. :good: Edited February 16, 2017 by four-wheel-drive

My friend's Landcruiser has discs front and back and coil spring suspension. And on looking online at car parts it seems that the Nissan Terrano has discs and coil springs too. four-wheel-drive
I do not see the problem with leaf springs on the back I think that most puckups and vans still use them with ether coil springs on the front or independent front suspension having solid axles makes it much simpler to lift a truck to go over really rough ground.
