mowdy
I am getting a new van in a couple of weeks and want to fit a inverter to charge cordless drill batteries and boil a kettle as well as we often have on power on site. Any ideas on what size eg 1500w? and suppliers? Many thanks Mowdy
figgy
A inverter with enough power to boil a kettle will hammer the van battery. Much better to use a camping stove to boil water and inverter to charge your tool batteries.
Masic
Set up a split charge for a batt for the inverter and I'll be ok. Iv got a 6000w lf inverter in my van , charges all runs air compressor, 9 inch grinder at the same time and boils kettle easily and runs microwave, just make sure it's a pure sine wave. Mines bit overkill but hey
Paddy Galore!
we had them in the works vans when I worked for the council, they just about managed to charge batteries or run a small travel kettle, they were rigged up with an isolator switch so they didn't drain the battery
seph234
As MASIC said make sure its pure sinewave. look at the power rating of your kettle and size accordingly

ph5172
I was being nosey on a site the other day as i was interested in this. I saw one all kitted out like a motor home! He said he ran 2 Heavy Duty batteries with a split charge and a digital volt meter so he could see at a glance if it was getting low. Another one had a small inverter he could switch on and off he also has a small 12v kettle that plugged into the cigarette lighter - Christ knows how long it would take to boil but it seemed well used. I had an 800w one years ago (when they were expensive) and it was fine for charging batteries and laptops should i have needed - i only used to use it with the ignition running though
