NffcFarmerBoy
Hi guys I currently own an SKB 200E side by side single trigger that I bought a few years ago like the one seen in the picture below. My question is that is it possible to take the black finish off the reciever and have it as a silver coloured action and if so how is it done? I love the gun to bits and shoot very well (for me!) with it but not a huge fan of the black action. Thanks in advance Edited March 6, 2017 by NffcFarmerBoy
fieldwanderer
I hear cilit bang or rust killer will strip blue - the main concern will be keeping it from rusting when you're done (with blue being primarily a rust preventative)
Gunman
To do the job properly it needs to be stripped down completely , You can use a pickling solution but that come with its own risks although it will take off all the blacking quickly . The other method is to buff off on a polishing mop with appropriate compounds . When cleaned off it will benefit from being thoroughly cleaned so is grease and chemical free then lacquered . SkB did do a "bright" action but this was a dull chrome . Personally I think that polishing will not improve the appearance and will be detrimental to its looks and value . Up to you what you do but do it properly or not at all is my advice and opinion . G
bicykillgaz
Buy a birchwood Casey bluing kit it'll have everything needed to strip it back, and if you don't like it just re-blue it with the kit👍
figgy
If you use a buffing wheel to knock the finish back you can keep the black in the engraving and it should look nice. But it will need clear coating to protect the bare metal. Why not look for another of the same gun in the finish you want.
saddler
Mate accidentally found out that Cilit Bang strips bluing in very quick order! He was trying to clean his black powder pistol at the time, so expensive lesson.

Paul1440
If it's in anyshere near the condition in picture...Don't do it. You will ruin it's value and regret it if you came to sell it. 200Es can fetch 6 to £700 in good nick.
theshootist
Just keep using it. In about 30 years it will have worn back nicely and look great!
