snipers eye
hi folks, went out yesterday for a few shots with my rem 223,using hornady 55g v max,i put up a target at 100 yards, put 3 inside 3/4 inch circle, happy with that, then i put up same type target at 200 yards,3 shots again inside 3/4inch very pleased,,but was about an inch high,i thought bullets were supposed to drop at distance, not rise ps harris bipod on front, sand bag at rear, also i only have the 223 a few months, and those were my first 200 yard shots,im zeroed for dead on at 100 yrds. bornfree
Do you have a very high scope?
kennett
Have you zeroed it, or was it 2nd hand and zeroed when you got it? Depending on the zero range the bullets would be on target twice, and appear to rise above the zero line in between, like this https://www.google.co.uk/search?ie=UTF-8&client=ms-android-samsung&source=android-browser&q=rifle+zero+chart&gfe_rd=cr&ei=kYrFWOGsKq7A8gefj7KoCw#gfe_rd=cr&imgrc=h2xtSmKXB0KO8M:
Benthejockey
I've spent 5 minutes playing with a quick and easy ballistic app I've got on my phone and I can't get that bullet to do what you're doing. I've used the off the box speed of 3240 and a ballistic coefficient of .242 and a sight height of 1.5inches. The best I can do is with a 225yd zero your an inch high at 200 and .3 of an inch high at 50. So is your 100yds really 100yds?
bornfree
I have a very high nv scope on my 223 and with 100 zero its high at 150 but around zero again at 200. Iam using 53g not 55 if that makes much difference Edited March 12, 2017 by bornfree
snipers eye
thank lads, scope is almost touching barrel,so its low;100 and 200 yards were done with a new rangefinder, and rechecked after to make sure,i zeroed it myself, bang on at 100 yrds, bit of a mystery alright, ill try again in few days after work. saddler
At 200 the bullet may still have been rising to its mid trajectory point. Try the 300 yard mark. Then increments of 50 yards on from there. Very capable little cartridge - never been without a .223 since '84 when I got an AR15A2, new in the box from a tiny rural shop in Lincolnshire. Present main .223 is a Rem 700 Police/Armalon, owned since '98 or so....plus a couple of 5.56's.
Benthejockey
Can't beat actual real world data. I'd be happy with a 1inch high at 200 yds. That means point and shoot at a fox at any distance you can legitimately call at night and it's dead.
welshwarrior
So a 250m zero putts it 2.5" high at 100 and 2.2" high at 200. 3/4" group you won't see the difference are you zeroing bang on at 100 or high?

So a 250m zero putts it 2.5" high at 100 and 2.2" high at 200. 3/4" group you won't see the difference are you zeroing bang on at 100 or high? Yep again. Something's not quite right.
