lurcherboy
Sorry to hear that H, a friend of mine had a similar problem with his dog and the vets gave him some meds that really improved things at home but not at the bank. He know buys from on-line vets. Let us know how you get on. LB
pavman
sorry to hear H my German went a similar path at same age, not unlike us, its a common complaint in getting old, if she is in no pian all the better, all you can do is continue to love her and look after her
new to the flock
Best of luck Henry, hopefully it is just a wee bladder infection. NTTF
Sussexboy
My 14 year old springer has a similar problem. It is because she is spayed and doesn't produce the right hormones to keep the bladder muscle stimulated. She is now on a medecine called propalin and it works a treat. She went from being an arthritic wet smelly unhappy old girl to an arthritic old girl who is happy most of the time. A good result as far as I am concerned. She is now on a medecine called propalin .......... And guess what ?? Yes my old girl has been spayed and the vet said much the same plus an antibiotic as she is a bit smelly ATM, so may have a weak infection that needs treating to prevent any worsening. I`m a lot happier now too! Cheers guys

Sussexboy
Good to hear it was nothing too serious. Make sure she enjoys her retirement, if she's like my old girl she has certainly earned it.
henry d
Many thanks one and all Good to hear it was nothing too serious. Make sure she enjoys her retirement, if she's like my old girl she has certainly earned it. Retirement ! she still lives for it!! She picks up on a grouse moor in August and at the partridges in september to get her fit then does 1/2 days until late Dec early Jan when she is tip top for full days. Wiping the youngsters eyes last year........
new to the flock
Henry, Glad all is turning out well. Keep her out in the field and happy until she decides it is time to pack it in for a warm fireplace. I know my Bear dog would not be left behind until he was going on 16, then one day he said enough and just stayed on the nice warm couch and let the young dog go on her own. NTTF

Sussexboy
That's a beautiful looking place to shoot Henry, it's also good to hear that the old'uns can still show the whippersnappers a thing or two!!. My old lady retired last year as she cannot walk too far anymore because of her arthritis. However she can still show the young pretender up when it comes to finding a dummy stuffed in the bottom of a hedge!!!

CharlieT
Henry This seems to be quite common with spayed bitches, most of my families bitches have suffered. I have had a bitches where after a couple of years the Propalin no longer works to well. Just be careful to keep her back end clean and washed. I have had flies laying eggs and maggots (as with sheep) at this time of the year despite frequent bathing. In the end I resorted to sheep pour on to tackle it. henry d
She`s getting well washed and will have her annual shear in a weeks time. The vet was well up on this as he was at pains to point out that the medicine makes the smooth muscles and in particular the ones in her eurethra tighten but also works on the gut muscles and if she is given more than the regular dose it can cause severe cramps There was also a good leaflet about it in the waiting room when I took the ferrets today. Many thanks again everyone
