Crumpler1991
Hi i want shorten stock on my b26 to 13 1/2 Is it a easy enough job at home and will the original recoil pad fit Many thanks for any info
Harry136
It is an easy job if you have the tools and/or the skills. I used a tennon saw to cut my stock and cut it a couple of mms long. After cutting it with the saw use some sandpaper on a block to finish it off using ever smaller grades of sandpaper. Don't forget after your stock has been trimmed the original recoil pad wont fit so you need a new one. I recommend buying a kick eze recoil pad as these can be ground to fit by a cobler. Old farrier
Hi It's easy in principle However lot to consider shortening affects balance Also consider comb high this will change Also toe and heel measurements need to be considered Do you know what you're stock mesuremare and should be to fit you ? So my advice is go to a pro All the best Of
Old Boggy
As OF said, best go to a pro who can advise your precise requirements before proceeding. 13 1/2 inches does seem short unless for a junior. I`m vertically challenged and consequently have short arms but my ideal LOP is 14 1/4 inches. OB
welshwarrior
It really easy if you have the right stuff and know how. The old pad won't fit any more and again it's easy to adjust if you have the right tools and skills.
JJsDad
Old Boggy and his `relative` Old Farrier have about summed it up. But you may wish to consider the effect on re-sale value as well. You will struggle in the future to sell it with a 13 and a half inch stock and no-one likes ill matched extensions. Trying to do a DIY reduction in length may cost you more in the long run if you have to pay someone to sort out any mistakes you make. Wingman
Easy to do, but hard to get it right. I did it on a 20 bore single for the kids but wouldn't do it on any of my decent guns.
johnphilip
First .does it have a raised comb .will a female be using it. Tips .drill the holes that are in the stock now for the butt pad.drill them past to were you will be making the cut .so that when you cut the piece of you will have a guide to were the butt pad will line up .you could scribe the butt pad then take it back of and sand it on a bench belt sander if you have one use about 80 grit to start with then come down to i finer one to finish. The reason i ask re female they are built a bit differant to us .
bornfree
I've done a few for people I cut them on a bandsaw then flatten on a belt linisher and fit the thinnest pad available so they can extend it with a thicker pad later on if needed.
