lloydi73
Recently purchased my Ruegar 10-22 .22LR and tried zeroing it in. Without mod, groups perfectly, 10 magazine all within 1 inch group. However, when you put mod on, the bullets come out the end and just nose dive into the ground. I zeroed at 70m without and all hit target, put mod on and they were literally falling 10m short and hitting the ground 2ft below target. I've now had to send it away to gunsmiths to have iron sight removed and an over barrel mod fitted. Anybody else had this issue?
Jaymo
Yes My 10/22 takedown that I had from new did this- slightly clipping any mod we tried. Returned it to Chris Potter who sent it off. Was returned with a new mod spigot as the original fitted was out of square- was told they had a few like that? Is the barrel screwcut on yours or does it look like s screw in spigot? Mines fine now thankfully but you shouldn't have to pay a gunsmith on what is possibly a manufacturing defect ( think the Consumer Rights Act applies for up to six or seven years if it can be proved to be there from new)
Gunman
Was it factory threaded or after sales job ? Seems to me that the problem is that the moderator is seating down out of alignment with the bore so need to be adjusted .
Velocette
I had a similar problem which seemed to be a result of a very poorly supported action causing the barrel to touch the forend of the stock with the additional weight of the mod. I tried relieving the stock to give plenty of clearance for the barrel,,then tried bedding the action to stop things moving about but it was never properly resolved. All the test firing I did at the range only served to highlight the awful jamming problems they are notorious for and in the end I just got rid and stuck to my 452 which has never missed a beat. lloydi73
Hi Guys, No, factory threaded screw cut on end to take a mod, and no, I'm not paying for the fix, the gun dealer who sold it to me is doing it FOC as it's been a fault since I purchased it from them. Mind you, I do also use him and spend a lot with him so least they could do. Let you know how I get on when it comes back, should be sometime next week.... hodge911
I bought a brno mod2e from local shop S/H for the massive price of £50 took it out zeroed it at 70 yds without the mod on and it was amazing just about all 5 through 1 hole .......... I was more than happy .............. until I took my mod off the ruger and put it on the brno and had exactly the same problem the ronds were hitting the ground about 10 - 15 foot in front of me mod back off and bang back on target . the rounds were clipping the inside of the mod knacking the baffles inside . got onto the shop and explained what was wrong they said bring it back and we,ll get it sorted or you can have money back . I asked them to sort it so they sent it to bowtech at birtley and he cut he threads off rethreaded and re crowned it and it is now spot on the gunshop asked if I would contribute £10 towards it getting repaired which was fine with me as the gunsmith said he checked the bore ect over before he done the job and could not find any problems at all with the gun and in his opinion the rifle had "done next to nothing ans was in as new condition "
lloydi73
Right, as promised I'd let you know when I got it back... Picked it up last night and looks much better with iron sight milled off and over barrel mod applied. Grouped within an inch at 70m with mod on, although 2 inches low and 4 inches left. But to be honest conditions were not good last night, strong wind, getting dark ans I was in a hurry to get lamping as I had the 17HMR anyway but I just wanted to get out and try it, but at least it groups and doesn't hit ground now!! Hopefully the weekend will give us some still weather so I can go lie on the ground and shoot without wind.. ATB Lloydi

steve_b_wales
hello, another point on the 10/22, chap i know could not get a decent zero with his (carbine ) and he was advised to try with out the barrel band, perfect results. I fitted a Hogue stock to mine from new, which does away with the barrel band. It also makes the rifle feel and handle better in my opinion.
