steve_b_wales
I know this subject has been brought up before, but has anyone got, or used the above dash cam? The reviews are good, but I would prefer to hear from someone who has/had one.
rob-d
i haven't used the exact model above but i have one of the lower models and it seems ok and easy to use. i see this model has the gps which in my opinion is a must have feature because it logs your exact position on the road. my wife was involved in a bump which was not her fault and the other driver baysicallly just lied and tried to say my wife entered the roundabout from a completely different entrance than she did (this was before she had the dashcam) and she had a nightmare with the insurance. Medic1281
It's looks good, just watched the sales video on their website, and the number plate that it recognises has been altered. Looks like someone has used some black tape to disguise the number!!
silver pigeon69
i have a 312GW and to be honest would not buy another Nextbase. The first one would not work with the app on my Iphone. After a lengthy call to tech support at Nextbase, i was informed it was faulty and to get it changed. I then changed it to find the problem was the same. An internet search revealed that this is/was a known problem and that Nextbase's official stand was that an update would be released soon ( which i dont know if it has because i gave up continually updating the unit and App!). So basically the tech support knew of this problem and basically lied through their teeth to me. The unit is almost a year old now, the battery seems to be operating at about 50% and quite often the unit goes into "dark" mode, where you can hardly see the image on the screen!! (i think this may have something to do with the light level sensor in the camera???) This one will be going back soon and being replaced with another brand! I dont know what the other units are like or if they have the same issues?
djgeoff
i have the 412g, no working problems only issue i found was the suction holder for screen was useless it kept falling off so i complained and they sent me two self adhesive type... suck for ever now lol
steve_b_wales
Thanks for all the comments etc. My mate has the 412 and says it's not caused any problems. Regarding the suction holder, he said that he also had a 3M self adhesive mount as well. I'm tempted to buy it.
steve_b_wales
I went and bought the above dash cam, and so far, I'm impressed. There's a lot of cheaper one's out there which do a good job, but this suits my needs. It's been hardwired into my vehicle and I tried it out travelling to and from work last night/this morning. Excellent video footage too, but I'm going to add a piece of polarising filter to the lens to see how better it makes it. The 512 model already has this. I've switched the microphone off though, as there was a few 'choice' words that could be heard when I watched the footage.
John_R
My wife just got the 412GW and it seems pretty good after just the first couple of days. However, neither she nor I can get the wifi connection to a tablet working. The tablets come up with "incorrect password". Has anyone found the same? We have changed nothing, the pw is as per default settings.
steve_b_wales
I've only connected mine to my iPhone so far, and had no problem doing so. I uploaded the Netbase Cam Viewer and followed the instructions. I can't understand why yours won't accept the password if you are entering correctly. John_R
When going into settings on tablets, we could see the SSID of the camera. The default pw is 12345678, which we both know we entered correctly, but both failed. Will try another tablet and a phone to see.

I just connected mine to my tablet (Lenovo TAB 10) and it worked straight away. Have you tried connecting it to a smartphone.?
Salop Matt
What phones are folks having issues connecting with ? I am keen to have a camera in each of our cars but it seems a mine field and there are some high prices. What ever we had would be hard wired in so that would always be recording. John_R
We had a flash of inspiration having had trouble with a Wi-Fi back up drive about a year ago. Some devices get totally swamped by our main Wi-Fi router and this turns out to be the case again. Go outside beyond range and it works fine. John_R
Actually she wants it as she is having a driving holiday soon and just wants the footage. Easier to cope with the clips a dashcam takes and she didn't want an action cam.
Davyo
Both my cars have them fitted. My insurance Churchill and Swinton both said "good for you" when i told them.No discount at all,Churchill even classed it as a modification as it's hardwired lol. Salop Matt
Am not after a discount on insurance just the ability to prove as much as I can should I be in a bump or whiteness someone else's !

ATB Matt Unless your two vehicles are being used the same time, you can buy a spare connection for the 412(and other models) which will allow you to transfer it easily from one to the other. al4x
It's all just a death of 1000 cuts. We are all assured insurance will be cheaper with a camera so we all suck it up and guess what, it will eventually be mandatory and Big Brother has won. Ish I have to say I'm a slight convert, we have mi witness on the vans my drivers use at work. We had a nasty earlier this year with we think a crash for cash attempt. Car three in front of our van did an emergency stop just as it came off the slip road onto the m1. Our driver had been driving well but they managed to bunch traffic by slowing as they came off the slip road. Hit the vehicle in front of him pretty hard but the camera showed his driving, let me put two fingers up at them when they claimed we hit the lead car and was the best evidence for the cars in front with defending the claims that arrived the day after. Ours also record the cab so you can show the driver wasn't on the phone or doing anything he shouldn't. The new ones do go a little big brother as they send alerts to my pc if they are driving badly or in the event of an accident. I think having one is the best defence going, I would post the footage but it's likely to be used in court at some stage so can't yet but it's an eye opener as to how fast these things can happen. No problems with software so far, and I've got the latest update. I'm pleased with my purchase and have filmed no end of idiots on the road. I fitted a polarising filter and it made a hell of a difference to the film quality.

Yes. Mine switches off after a minute, but you can set the time from permanently on to a few minutes.
