Hushpower cartridges

Recommended Posts

I have shop bought 20g subs, 30g/5s, with which you can hear the pellets hit a piece of cardboard. They are quiet but they are not much good at killing things and I recall I chrono'ed them at silly slow, something like 7-800fps. Mine are a bit noisier but kill well, don't disturb the ground too much and don't require ear protection.

There you go shop bought subs ain't all there cracked up to be!

I rest my case, waste of money!! IMHO.

Stick with normal loads or home loads, maybe a tad noisier but kill better and cheaper to source.

So reloading the carts so they make less bang and the mod catches more of the slower expanding gases .isnt really the same as making the projectile subsonic .ie less than 1125 fps out the muzzle .it may well be sub sonic .or super. But that's not the definition of a subsonic projectile .

If the cart manufacturers put on their ammo box ..low powder ,naff velocity ,wont kill past 15 yds it would be truer but who is gonna buy that brand ??

No sub sonic sounds better .but in reality it doesn't matter whether it is or isn't .

A shot gun pellet traveling at sub 900 fps out the barrel is gonna struggle to kill and any sensible range .

Still with blue barrels.

Whoa there nelly.

Thats not true. That's false and misleading.

Seems quite a few with subsonic cart experience agree with my original post, egh cookie monster!! That subs really don't justify the extra £ lol

Why would anyone buy a cart with less power which costs more, over a cheaper cart that does a better job? And minimal noise difference.

I have a moderated Mossy 500 410 and I have to say I cannot tell the difference between anything I shoot. The only factory subs I have fired have been Eley 3 inch. I know that the mod on the gun does reduce noise as I don't need to wear defenders when shooting. However if I am down the wood and shoot the gun my wife can hear the shot in the house 400yrds away. I have to agree with those who say the factory sub sonics are not worth the difference.

I use Gamebore Super Competition 20ga Hushpower cartridges and the muzzle velocity is stated as 1050 fps, which is what qualifies them as subsonic.

I believe there is a difference, but in some conditions, like a windy damp day on an open field, it might be hard to notice it.

Around buildings and confined areas it definitely becomes more apparent IMO.

You guys just don't get the point. You bought a factory shell that's labelled subsonic and actually is SS. It's not misleading at all.

Maybe you should buy a different brand and try that.

I try new powders to get subsonic to work. The faster the better.

I can save a fortune on homeload subs over factory. Why are you spending more on factory?
