Deb B
Hi Y'all! I have three ESS, and this is the first forum where I'm not in the minority (most of the forums I'm on here on this side of the pond is mostly pointing type dog owners). I'm going to love getting the British perspective of ESS training. My three dog are: Piper (Field's Edge Black Watch, MH), and she's my avatar. She's 10, but doesn't know it. She is retired from trialing, but is a great companion, and I love her to bits. Merlin is our meat dog. He's mostly bench bred, but is working on his Master Hunter title too. He's 5. Halley is our puppy. She's our field trial prospect. She's 1 year old and away at summer camp. She's steady to wing and shot, but hasn't been on many birds (it's too hot to train here this time of year). We miss her terribly. She'll be back in August. I also like to hunt and shoot. I have three over/under guns, and love to shock the guys at work about shooting birds. They can't believe that a GIRL has "gone native" on them. Hunting is fun, but honestly, it's all about the dogs. Happy to be here, I'll go over to the thread showing our faithful companions to show our pack.

Deb B
thanks, all yall. I have an ignorance issue. We hunt doves in September here, but never hunt pigeons (except the orange clay types). Pigeons we trap and use for dog training. Do all yall hunt pigeons? Feeling a little stupid here. I GUESS we could hunt pigeons, but the fast food owners would have a real problem with it. All the pigeons I know live in the city, where shooting is reserved for the gangstas. pin
We all (try) and shoot the Wood Pigeon. The wild and I have to say much prettier relative of the common or feral pigeon (which is the sort that live in cities etc). I don't know that you have the Wood Pigeon over there, it is a massive agricultural pest over here which also gives the shooter some fantastic sport If you want to know more about this kind of shooting you sure came to the right place Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy your stay! When I was station in Turkey in the USAF back in the early 70's, we tried shooting some of those along the coast. Those birds used the strong wind shears coming up over the sea cliffs and were like rockets! I do not remember hitting one, nor did my partner, but it was fun trying. We did good on the large doves they had there, espicially in the fall when the congregated around some of the grianeries.
