webber
At the clay shoot we run a number of flourecent lamp fittings from a small generator with more than enough power for the job. However, the lamps flicker anoyingly. I wondered if any electrical engineers could suggest a fix for the issue. Ive had a few ideas, but would like to draw on the experience of others. webber
bear-uk
I wonder if LED tubes would not suffer from the generator pulses.

ditchman
flouresant lamp/lights flicker anyway at 50 times/sec....its called Hertz (Hz)...........could the generator be running too slowly and thus not producing the right frequency ? John_R
How many light fittings / total load and what is the spec of the genny? If this has been happening from new, and all the lights are affected it would suggest that the genny is sending "dirty" power full of spikes and dips, or perhaps not the correct voltage or both. You could try adding a normal tungsten floodlight of 500 watts or more to see if that has the effect of damping out any spikes etc. This also assumes all the wiring is correct and in good nick. Saltings
if they haven't done this before the starters may be failing or the tubes may be failing change the starter first from a working light into the failing light if fix all good if not change bulb each process will let you know the problem
John_R
Did you deal with this? If so what was the outcome?
Cant hit them all
generators are notorious for this especially the cheaper brand ones quick fix stick something on it for extra power take away like for instance a 100w light bulbs or something and they seem to run even then
John_R
The normal lights don't take away extra power, they add a resistive load and that can have the effect of damping out irregularities. Sometimes we use dummy loads to make dimmers work on weird or unusual lights.
