keeper96
Hi guys, I’ve recently bought a Hatsan Escort 8 shot, a cheap auction purpose. I’ve just taken it apart to clean before using it and noticed that it doesn’t have this o ring on the gas system that everyone talks about? Is there a mk of escort with no ring or am I missing parts? It seems to cycle 32g cartridges but will not cycle 28g cartridges
B&W FOX
The o-ring is the last item to be fitted, on the magazine stack, so slide, springs, spacers etc then the rubber oring. Where you pull back the receiver in the breech block, ( where you put your cartridge straight into the chamber) you will see a small channel in there, this has a small gas hole running through it make sure this is kept clean as the gas for the feed travels down this port. strimmer_13
From what I remember and what I did, buy a multi pack of orings off the bay or hardware shop. Cheaper by far. I'd go through a fair few as I cleaned it a lot, but it would cycle 21g when clean. But from what I understand I had a lucky gun. As fox says above keep it super clean and shouldn't have a problem. Hope this helps

Lord O War
It should have no trouble with 28g loads. Mine never misses a beat, the only time I had trouble with fail to eject shells correctly was down to storage issues of the shells. Since I moved the shells it has been fine. keeper96
Update! I bought some rings and fitted one but the gun wouldn’t fire, not even a mark on the primer. I removed the o ring and took everything fully to bits and give a proper clean with a tooth brush and the air line and reassembled it with plenty of oil and it now cycles 32g carts, I haven’t tried abduthing smaller yet though! After a bit of research apparently this mark of escort doesn’t use an o-ring? Jamie
Spoon
What kind of Escort? All the ones I've played with needed it so assumed it was universal.

The length of the cartridge has everything to do with the gun cycling them correctly.

Andyj1967
I’ve got a 2012 magnum and if read my post I seem to have a different type of smart valve which doesn’t need that o ring. I have used mine on 28g shot about 300shells through it and it has only jammed twice, gave it a major clean and lube up used a light engine oil on cartridge tube it cycles with no issue now! below is a link to the type of valve I have and there is no place to fit an o ring. http://www.airgunspares.com/store/product/21535/Hatsan-Smart-Valve-Piston-3.5"/ good luck
impala59
Interesting thread this, I had a gen2 Hatsan which never missed a beat. That one had an o ring like the my Remingtons. If you google escort magnum schematic, that shows the gas regulating piston as above but also shows an o ring which would reside within the cylinder to prevent forward bleeding and loss of gas. ( the cylinder is necessarily a loose fit on the tube, if gas tight, disassembly would be impossible) the self regulator is (by the look of it) simply a wraparound spring ring which will open when excessive gas is present. Remington use that on the 1187, on the cylinder. The trick is to make the semi-auto function on a light load, anything more powerful is vented by the sprung ring expanding. The Turks constantly update their designs, I have an Impala which is different system entirely and that has a captive o ring inside the cylinder
