ferretmanabu
When you're out shooting, do you always know whether a bird you've shot is dead or not? I always go out of the hide to check possible runners whenever I think I may have wounded one but this can get irritating when you're having a good day. Would be good to have a dog. ROBLATCH
i always tend to know that a bird is dead by the way it drops (folds).i also use my cocker spaniel.
ferretmanabu
i always tend to know that a bird is dead by the way it drops (folds).i also use my cocker spaniel. Yeah most of them are obvious like that. Sometimes though, if I've shot one thats been very close to landing, it becomes more difficult to tell. Ferret Master
I suppose all you can do is check. Sometimes you get the odd bird that isn't moving much but still blinking. FM

big simmo999
Get a dog mate - it takes your days enjoyment to a different level (plus it saves you having to get up and get the runner yourself!)

hutchie the white hunter
I couldn't/wouldn't shoot without a dog. LB BUT on a scorching hot day you should not have the dog out in the hide with you the dog could dehydrate and i should know its happend to me and its not nice beleave me dont do it and if you are going to take the hound NOT THE MISSES,be positive there is a burn steam water close by and put the dog in it every few hours to keep its body heat down
