Walker570
Just had a strange text supposedly from Barclays. We are just checking on a payment to authorise to Pay Pal call this number. Firstly I never use Pay Pal. I did not respond and deleted the message. Then rang the correct security number for Barclays but they kept me hanging on for over 15 minutes, finally hung up. The balance in my account was as it should be. Be aware because this was undoubtably a false message. The first of it's kind for me although we have had the press button 1 calls on the house phone. We removed our landline phone over a year ago because of all the calls that hang up on answering, the line is kept for broadband. We rarely make any calls and both have Vodafone sim only deals of £6 per month.
Dave at kelton
There have been a few scams reported re banking. Various service providers having your personal details and advising the they were unable to take your payment this month so please make a manual payment etc. They are becoming more sophisticated as banks tighten security. as to calls I have had BT call minder for years and have never had a time wasting call since. Highly recommended and I only wish I had it on the mobile!

discobob
A guy on a Jag forum got done for just short of £10k, A call from "Amazon" - we think we have taken money from your account. Although he says he checked his balance on his PC - separate to his phone, somehow they had his details and got them to authenticate to them on the phone for a text message sent to him. Apparently his bank has denied his claim
JKD
I sympathise with anyone who has been scammed, but it has been made aware that all banks/financial companies etc WILL NOT contact you via text, phone calls or email, unless replying to you via these methods. You might get notifications [this can include fraudulent activities] and information type contact, but not the "please contact us" type. NEVER use a link or attached email addresses or phone numbers. Anything incoming to me is regarded as suspicious and deleted instantly. Anything that I am expecting still gets looked at suspiciously and investigated further on a different device. Best to treat EVERYTHING as dodgy and delete,,,, you can always call the people directly if it is expected business,,,, if it isn't,,,, STRAIGHT IN THE BIN !!!
