steve_b_wales
I have to apply for a 1-1 variation because the new 308 rifle I purchased and was faulty, is being replaced by the importer. Where can I find the variation form, is it with the standard application for a firearm form?
London Best
I think it is the standard application form.

I've just checked the application form online, and there's nothing that mentions a variation. I think in the past, I just sent a letter requesting the 1-1 variation, together with proof that I no longer have the firearm, and also my FAC. Vince Green
Have you tried just phoning them Steve? I think with my FEO I could probably change it with a photo on my phone of the new serial number. and an email explaining what happened. South Wales Police firearms department want proof of who's now in possession of the rifle, and I have to send this together with my variation form/FAC to them. I’ve just realised that since I started my current firearm certificate in 1989 I have never actually had a variation except at renewal times! I have had a few variations in the past, usually when I sell one of my rifle's and then request another one (same calibre or different) in exchange. A bit long winded, but 'them's the rules'. London Best
I have never been one for chopping and changing. Made decisions what I wanted and stuck with them. Anyway, I’m tight, and variations are free at renewals!

Additional or change of calibre not at renewal is cost

As long as you dont want more than one slot exra , ie , a black powder pistol for a rifle and mod (2 slots) Im just swapping in a .44 BP and an HMR + mod (3 slots) for a 6.5 CM + mod, and a .357 gallery rifle, all free variations. Additional or change of calibre not at renewal is cost I've 'swopped' a calibre by selling one and requesting another. I also took a spare moderator off my ticket and had an extra .22LR put on instead. I don't know if all police forces do the same - they should. Some of the things i get told are bonkers at best when I ask. But they make the rules...

London Best
Well, I’ve learned something today. Like I said, never been one for swapping different guns around so I hadn’t realised about one for one swaps.

No, i never would have thought that, how can you say such a thing???? Actually, more often than not, I don't think they actually know what the subtle fine details of the rules are. They get trained on the broad principles but a lot of their "howlers" show their knowledge is sketchy.
steve_b_wales
I had my FAC variation back this morning. Handed it in last Thursday afternoon. I would have had it yesterday had it not been a bank holiday. Brilliant service yet again from South Wales Police firearms department.
