Clay gun for game shooting?

As long as all your guns fit and shoot the same (picture down the barrel) I reckon it's all a much of a muchness.

My top 4 guns are as follows:

1. F3

Joint 2nd : Zoli sbs and mossberg pump

4. Beretta AL391

I shoot pretty much the same with all of them but I prefer the Blaser because it's just better to get on with.

I will be getting rid of the rest to make room in the cabinet for FAC toys.

So....is the F3 really as good as many of you make out or is it 'all in the head' i.e. you think that you have the best available clay gun therefore you expect to shoot well and hey-presto, you do? What did you all shoot before the F3 was released? For such a plain unadorned gun it's pretty expensive but many of you must feel that it is worth it. Can any of you actually physically define the differences in the F3 when compared with other guns of a similar value or is it just something you 'feel' when you shoot with it?

I use my Grade 5 Miroku ( worth quite a bit) for everything from pigeons to rough shooting to a high brow pheasant day, they are only tools and although some cost a lot more than others they do the same job .

i know Alan Rhone ( Blazer and Kriegoff UK supplier) quite well too - he sponserd my brothers clay shooting when he had a 'normal' gun shop ( was about 25 years ago though), i see quite a lot for a chat and one of the lads that work for hims shoots with us quite a bit.

This season I will be using my Beretta 682 Gold E for game as well as having used it for clays all over the summer. Whats the point in getting my eye in with one gun all summer long, only to use a different gun when it really matters to make clean kills ?

interesting train of thought, would not practice with a second gun give the nessasary experience to make sure??

it was just a thought.

birdsaver.

Not not really - if you only use 1 gun you get very used to shooting it and after a short while it's as if its part of your body somehow

Just my view anyhow.

I do only use 1 now - used to own 3 but swaping and changing guns round made for bad shooting - so stuck with the one gun and seem to shoot ok with it now.

see your point bud, it would seem were split on gun/guns, but i must agree starting out it would be better to use one, i just cant stand lugging the heavier guns over field and far when out so stick the lighter 20g, of cource the gooses get the bigger howitzer.

interesting thread and thoughts by all

Interesting thread.

I've just had my SGC granted and i'm in the same boat, i think i'm gonna go for a 686E Sporting to use on both the clays and rough.

Seems like a well made gun, realistically priced and i hit things with it.

good choice, I use the same for both clays and game etc if you can shoot well with a gun then why use another for a different use. Ok you can get light game guns that are easier to carry on a day out but really this is only an issue if you are struggling with walking if you're pretty fit it doesn't come into the equation. The only change I make is I use an auto when lamping rabbits from a vehicle as I find it far easier to load and the third cartridge comes in handy. Having said that I don't think I shoot quite as well with my auto as mu O/U but its horses for courses.
