nobbyathome
then realising the damage took off the board and a couple of floorboards to let it start to dry
JKD
I feel for you fella, I really do 😕 In my line of work I see this a lot,,,, sometimes the entire house is flooded with water running down the stairs, through all light fittings and out of the external doors ! It's devastating, but insurance usually covers it,,,, that's where "we" come in 🙂 Looking forward to the ongoing refit 👍

nobbyathome
i then go inside and start taking the complete shower out smashing the tiles off and leaving me with a bare room i then replace some of the stud timbers it must have been leaking for years because a few of the posts were as rotten as a pear
nobbyathome
my first step after the timber was what do i use for boards years ago when it was done marine ply was used i decided to use nicoback tilebacker boards they are very light with a foam like centre its like a fibre glass foam sandwich so up they go
JKD
Don't forget to put cement based boards on the stud in the shower area 😉 Like HardieBacker 👍

nobbyathome
the next task was to paint it all over with a waterproof resin/paint stuff like you use in a wet room i had never heard of this stuff but it went on thick and looked the part the next bit was making a base to put the tray on leaving me enough room to sort the pipe work out then i put ply down on top after the ply i put a layer of sand and cement on top of it to sit the shower tray on so it will never move when we are in it and down the tray went
nobbyathome
then the next part was to put a false ceiling up so i can tile the ceiling and fit a light and an extractor fan inside
nobbyathome
i then had to plaster the outside of the shower to tile over i am awful at plastering but as i knew i was going to tile over it i had a go anyway then comes the fun part tiling again not ny forte but i think i did it ok finally the last side and the ceiling then to the outside of the shower using the same white tiles that i put on the ceiling
nobbyathome
after grouting it all i fitted the shower an aqualisa mixer this time no hidden pipes in the stud wall so if it leaks again it should be inside the shower the next to do was to fit the light and fan it is all one piece with the light in the middle next was the floorboards i put ply down over the top of then so i can tile over
nobbyathome
and then started laying the floor after the floor was done and dry time to fit the towell rail then the last job was to fit the shower doors sliding from left to right

Remimax
nice job only thing i would of done different is use hardy backer tile board under the tray, and sealed round to your walls so it was tanked. hate plywood as the swelling when wet can cause major problems in showers. nobbyathome
Thanks for the comments I finished it off last night with a coat of paint on the outside ceiling and put in a tall cupboard to put all the shampoo shower gel etc and to hold a few towels chucked in the old laundry basket and it’s all now in use
Windswept
Useful thread, thanks, I need to build something similar. One thing it needs just to finish off the project, a couple of very muddy spaniels!
