How did we get on today?

I met up with louisvalentine today at my local shoot (tollesbury Wildfowlers) and had a fairly decent round and finished on 42/50. Well done to LV finishing on 35/50, it wasn't easy.

I stayed behind to help clear up only to be told " go and get your gun, you're in a shoot off for the shield" So I went and got kitted out and went to the shoot off.

I had 42/50 on the main round in AA class and with a handicap of 6 tied me with high gun (AAA Class) on 48.

We tossed a coin which I won and elected to shoot first, THe stand was one of the ones we had shot in the morning and they moved the cage back 20 feet.

I got in the cage and watched a pair, I then loaded and called for my first pair that I missed cleanly, I then hit 1 of the next then the final 6.

The other guy got in the cage and missed the second bird 3 times and then missed the first bird of his last pair.

So I finished up winning by 1 clay and my name going on the club shield.

Chuffed as nuts doesn't quite cover it.

Although I do move up to AAA class for next season so there won't be a handicap for me next year, it will be down to Gun score alone.

A few of us tried Copfurn at Margaretting for the first time yesterday (this was the second shoot since it was taken over). Nice wooded shoot with some great targets. Have to say we all thought it was spot on and will be hitting this one more often, and it's only a short bash up the A12!

  • 2 weeks later...

Shot my local Club shoot at Wattisham today with FB111 and FG.22. Bit windy at times, with the traps having to be adjusted half way through to take into account the gusts pushing birds out of the safety area.

Had a good day for a change.

Two rounds of 50

SS - 76ex100

FG.22 - 73 ex 100

FB111 - 55 ex 100 (To be fair he was trying to take everything extremely early i.e. as it left the trap :lol: )

Have to say that FG.22 had an outstanding second round of 40 ex 50. Nothing wrong with that Gunfit

Had ago with a bolt action .410 that I was given this morning. Lovely gun killing birds going away and looping with ease, look forward to roost shooting and ferreting with it.

I just prefer to try and hit those targets that are extremely hard-

I dont go for hits at sitters, as clay shooting for me is to challenge myself- id rather try to hit one difficult shot than 10 easy ones.

Was good fun, bring on shooting live quarry- much more challenging.

Alex

(P.S- wont be able to make clay shooting next week as have zero money.)

Shot the Margaretting today with Louisvalentine and bumped into Bagsy and his gang whilst on the way round - nice bunch of normal blokes.

Looking forward to Monday madness - I understand Bagsy & co will be joining us which will be good.

Cheers Mungler, kind words indeed. Having been chatted up by some strange bloke in the woods I thought you may have described me as anything but normal  Was good to bump into Louisvalentine and yourself - and thanks for giving me a blast on the infamous Basildon sawn off, just worried my prints are on it now :good: I now have one on my shopping list!

Indeed, always good to meet some fellow PW people.

I have sorted next Sunday with Martin Cavie. We need to be there for 9:30 for 10 am SHARP start. It is an open shoot so no restriction on numbers. There isnt a burger van there so maybe we should meet at 8:45am at the Shenfield / Hutton A12 roundabout - there is a drive thru Maccas on that roundabout.

Smash and grab raid @ Horne (Gatton Bottom) today with garyb, I had my prizes from last time out to collect too :good:

Catmong said he might be there and duly rolled into the carpark early doors. Actually he might well have left it with high gun too, a master-class carding 95ex100 and it should have been 97 really. I think that will probably have won it, we will see. A real pleasure to watch someone of that standard shoot

I faired slightly worse, stupid misses etc but carded 76ex100 and was winning C class when I left. I felt 85 was on the cards for me if I had been concentrating. garyb had what you might call a very bad day at the office, really below his ability. I think he's struggling wearing glasses, worse still the ones I lent him are officially **** :good:

Did 3 shoots today as ive had to work a lot of weekends recently

Cadley 100 Reg - Shot 90 - Should be somewhere handy hopefully but there was a big score out there - I only straighted 2 stands

All targets within 30 yards

Westfields 100 bird open shot 86 dropped 6 on last stand a pair of incoming teal, you were facing a bank so you could not shoot them dropping late and track them, these were about 65 yards out

This gave me AA 1st - Carl Bloxham took High Gun with 89 - Well done Carl!

Westfields 50 bird open basicly the 5 hardest stands from the shoot above shot 39 missing another 6 more incoming teal

This gave me high gun :good:

Well done Cat! I just read about the 95 - Awesome shooting! :/

Im glad you dont live in the south west :good:

Had one or those days today . wish I' d stayed in bed . PXed my browning special and brought a new browning XRH yesterday . My normal shot rate at my local is 80 / 100 today only 50 / 100 . well gutted . Thought I had enough stick from the wife yesterday after spending £1600 on a new gun , got even worse to day when the son told her he beat me .
