old mig welder duff.

Brother dropped his old mig welder that he bought somewhere. It used to work for him but now the motor doesn't feed the wire (is all thats wrong he says)

I'm a bit of a fiddler with maybe a 75% success rate at fixing old kit but this eludes me - the white wire in the hand held unit is bugging me because it goes nowhere and is clean cut so doesn't seen to have broken off anywhere. Any ideas?

It doesnt ark at all either.DSCF2387.JPG.eec032af1e089a63f1e544ac47b8340d.JPG

Have a look on the circuit control board for any broken tracks, dry solder joints, etc.

The wire in the handle will control the motor feed for the wire and in most cases switches on the welding voltage.

Some older MIGs had live torches, that is to say that the wire was live even without the trigger being pulled.
