Dave-G
Brother dropped his old mig welder that he bought somewhere. It used to work for him but now the motor doesn't feed the wire (is all thats wrong he says) I'm a bit of a fiddler with maybe a 75% success rate at fixing old kit but this eludes me - the white wire in the hand held unit is bugging me because it goes nowhere and is clean cut so doesn't seen to have broken off anywhere. Any ideas? It doesnt ark at all either. Edited September 9, 2021 by Dave-G
clangerman
fit a new roll of wire if the motor turns but does not feed you need a new liner easy to fit and cheap

Dave-G
Fuse OK, power on switch illuminates red. Defo not wanting to poke around wi transformers though so it looks like I'll be dropping this one lol.
Ricko
Have a look on the circuit control board for any broken tracks, dry solder joints, etc. The wire in the handle will control the motor feed for the wire and in most cases switches on the welding voltage. Some older MIGs had live torches, that is to say that the wire was live even without the trigger being pulled.
Agriv8
As the torch and cable is usually replaceable have you checked continuity end to end when torch switch activated ? Atb Agriv8
Dave-G
Will look and fiddle again thanks.
Eaf70
Check the switch/trigger has two spade connectors and I wouldn't be surprised if the white one is not connected. But a cheap MB25 torch is not expensive to replace.
ditchman
take the trigger switch out and check with a continuity tester
Dave-G
I'd about wrote it off but I'll try the switch... though it only mechanically bends a metal strip to contact the cable outer sheath thingy.
