If you own a Landy you really must expect this and just quietly pour yourself a stiff double or three and take it like a man,

dont whinge about it just think about getting it repaired AND FLOGGING IT, once on the annual slope of failed mots theres no hope for your wallet

Ive been there with series 2,s and 3,s just going through my 2nd Defender. Had all the Jap **** and they are worse when they get older!! Parts cost an arm and a leg if you can get them in UK :P

At least there are mountains of bolt on spares for Landys its the crud thats the killer.

Good luck with the re-test.

Welding could be the expensive part, but only maybe, depending on how bad it is.

Headlights are cheap, don't worry about that bit.

PAS box isn't a huge job either, shouldn't cost a lot.

Wheel bearings aren't going to break the bank.

Probably the drop arm ball joint if my experience is anything to go by? Again a relatively cheap fix.

Be glad you don't own Jap, all this stuff would bankrupt you! At least one thing the landy has going for it is very cheap parts, if the labour is cheap these problems shouldn't amount to anything too serious. When I had a landy my understanding was that if it wasn't an inaccessable part of the chassis or bulkhead, or a major engine or gearbox fault, then the cost was going to be pretty reasonable. Don't get rid of it unless the chassis is going to get worse, I regret selling mine and one day WILL buy another. They're great, nothing comes close to their character. Just take the bill like a man and enjoy what you have, nothing else will be quite the same if you turn Jap
