starlight32
Escorts are fine, but if you can stretch to it go for a Browning, Benelli or Beretta. Can't go wrong with them and they are a lot better handling than the escorts.
njc110381
Beretta AL391 Technys/urika every time if you can get one in your budget. I'd rather have a used one of these than any you've listed! I have an A391 Xtrema 3.5 and it will cycle 24g loads as long as hey have a 70mm case. That's 24g shells through a gun that can handle 60g+ 3.5inch magnum shells, some seriously good engineering I feel? The standard AL391 is a lovely gun too, and more suitable for every day Pigeon and clays. I've also heard Franchi are quite good, but I've never used one. My mate has an escort 3.5, and it's fussy with 32g shells sometimes! Can't comment on the standard model, but all of them are just so cheap compared to the Beretta/Franchi that they will never compare. They wont even come close! EDIT...I forgot to add Benelli, the above post reminded me that they are also very nice
Wookie
Another vote for the Beretta AL391 series. I have an Urika 2 and it's ******* amazing. It's cycled 24g Hushpowers, clay loads and 30g hunting carts with no problems. It's the right weight, got lovely balance, got a lovely trigger, doesn't reflect and has a manual safety. At £960 rrp it's good value. I know I can use it for anything I want to shoot, but I'd say go for a synthetic stock version if you want to go for wildfowl, maybe even stretch to the Extreema 2 if you want some serious flexibility. Seriously, no other semi comes close to the Beretta AL391. They even use them for law enforcement and you can get a model that has fixed cyl chokes and scope rails for big stuff if you want it. BigGun1
Purchased a Hatstand Escort from Goldfish last week, tried it today and hit 37 out of 50 clays No jams, failed ejects or misfires, firing a huge range of poo cartridges that I have had kicking arround for ages including some TragoMills special the ones I missed were my fault not the gun! Ok so it's early days yet but I'm more than happy so far with the way it shoots....and it's a multichoke.....and if it does break you can get all the bits next day from Edgar bros and I'm willing to bet there a lot cheaper than Beretta spares Can't wait to try it on feathers now!! throdgrain
Mossberg wont go wrong, looks the best, but its not actually a semi auto. Buy one anyway though.

Cushat
Get a Remi 1100 - best handling of the lot. What's the difference between a Remi 1100 and an 11-87? Looking for a secondhand auto myself and don't know much about them - particularly little about remington!

Emmsy
1187 had a few different parts like the stainless steel magazine, buts its basically the same thing. ive had both and they handle the same, although i only have my original 1100 now. get one with a 28in or 30in barrel and have a very sweet soft shooting gun. if you clean and look after them they are as good as anything else available. leeboy
if you have the budget, i'd go for Benelli everytime. They are fool proof, very easy to clean, and my Montefeltro will go 800+ rounds without cleaning and still cycle perfectly. Others worth looking at are the Browning Gold and the Winchester super x2 or 3. Leeboy
Country_est
Got a beretta Xtrema 3.5, shot 24g clays to 43g steels and all in between and have only had 1 Jam and that was on 3" steels. Only thing to watch out for is size of the dam thing. Had a 303 as well as the xtrema and the 303 with 30" barrels was shorter than than the extrema with 28" barrels due to the extra lenght on the action. Looked at the escorts and the only thing that put my off was the original ones were a bit short in the stock for me. But a new gun with 3 yrs warrenty to somebody elses old (used or abused) the choice is yours. Trev
