WalkedUp
On my run this morning I came across an adult barn owl that was unable to get sufficiently airborne to fly. Every time I was within 45 yards it would take off get 5ft off the ground and either crash into a hedge or coast a couple of hundred yards onto the ground. I didn’t want to get too close to it incase it was well but struggling with a large lunch, will keep my eyes open for it tomorrow though. TIGHTCHOKE
Could it have collided with a window at some point and been dazed?
WalkedUp
Can’t rule that out, but it was probably a mile from the nearest building. There are telegraph lines across the field though...
ditchman
it is often the case that an owl will over eat and have trouble flying.....heard of it a couple of times before
islandgun
flying low, they often swoop into traffic at night, it might be an idea to catch it if you can and get it checked
Mickeydredd
Never heard of an owl "over-eating" as they general catch live prey and swallow whole, although if weather has been bad they may resort to carrion. If it is an injury, then death will follow shortly if unable to fly and hunt successfully and cannot be captured.

WalkedUp
Apologies, have just seen these replies. I looked for it the next morning but couldn’t find any trace. My main concern is secondary poisoning if someone has been putting out rat poison.

WalkedUp
Saw the barn owl doing the same thing this morning about 400m from the first place. Doubting that it is poisoned or seriously ill if it has lasted this long, but just looks to weird.
