‘What I’m Proud of’

My eldest son, 7, had been selected to give a presentation to his school on stage at assembly today titled “What I am Proud of”. We left him to choose without any discussion as a. we are too busy to get involved b. we don’t like to micromanage them. I was very pleased to learn that he took his ‘shooting tie’ (green silk with tiny pheasant motif in gold) as the thing he is most proud of, and explained to everyone that he was proud of when he was given that tie as it then meant he could finally come with his father, uncle and our friends on shoot days.

I don’t know why but it really made me proud of him and thankful of all the great guys I shoot with who have been wonderfully encouraging. It’s good for boys to see men together and have these role models, even if my pals are old rogues 😬

Walked up because I am sure old rogues shaped our lives and outlook and we hope that they may shape our offspring!

At 50 ish with two sons of my own it’s the old rogues that my 11 year old mentions after a day out with my dad and grandad !

all we can hope that if one 7 year old can stand up in class and say that the tie means that to him we stand a chance. I will have a nip to your lad and his dad and all the old rogues.

Best wishes to you and the chip of the old block
