Hunter
College sent a letter in and told me the 2 year course im on is now unable to continue blah blah.. typical. On the bright side, I feel like im done with studying for a while, I need a job So far I have been looking at ghetting a job on a Deer estate (part time) but thats a no no due to foot&mouth controls and Bluetounge etc.. And the other thing I have been mulling over is the police force.. As much as I would like to work with the police, I dont fancy getting spat on/abused every day for 2 years untill I can specialize to something. Downside is I dont have the best maths (or maths GCSE's). This week il be seriously considering a number of jobs. What I like about the Police force most is the training courses, and ability to work my way into a good area eventually. Im still living at home, so I have the options and time (for now) and I completly refuse to go on any kind of benifits, as that would make me feel pretty low. I know I can work hard (even though im lazy latley) but I need something I can jump into and get going before its too late What did you do when you finished studying, anyone been in or currently in the same situation as me? Cheers
Pedro
Go for the old bill. It's not as bad as you make out and is still a laugh most of the time. Unfortunately they'll probably tell you to become a PCSO first - now that is dull P.

Dr W
I know it's a ball ache but I'd consider getting your maths gcse perhaps at evening college it will be really useful for things like the police etc
Hunter
I have thought of the army but its not my style. I know il take slack for it, but being a soldier and getting ordered around, sent into battles that I dont think concearn the safety of my country, just isnt for me. Respect to those out their doing their jobs though. As for being a PCSO, that wouldnt be ideal but I would do it if I had to. Still better then some of my options! al4x
go for the police. The guys I know that are in love it, theres a lot more to it than being abused and some real satisfaction to be had. You don't get many jobs as varied, plus the pay is not bad especially when you include the pension. Join early and you could find yourself retired before you're

Hunter
I thought you were a pretty good engineer? I have had a go at Engineering, and I love it in my free time or as a pint earner. But unless you are a serious pro, theres not a lot of money in it Alex, money seems good but thats the least im thinking about with all the jobs Il do some research and send of a few emails.. see what I can do. As for Maths, I wil look into a local course too, mite be a good idea
LEFTY478
Lots of competition for places in the Ol' Bill. No. 1 nephew has wanted to be a 'Plod' for years and was a long time ago told that, as a white English boy, having just gcse's or even A-levels he'd not have much chance as there's so many people applying now, they can afford to be very picky. So after finishing school he did a 2 year B-tech diploma in Police & Public Services and has this month just started a BA (Hons) in Crime and Policing at Canterbury Christ Church University and will shortly join Kent's Special Constabulary. So at least he should get to know if he'll actually like the job, before he does it for real. And as I'm sponsoring his studies to the tune £2.4k over the next 3 years, it had better be worth at least a couple of ripped-up speeding tickets, in the years to come. Well done Sir, what a top uncle you are If he doesn't get in after doing that lot, then, to quote an oft used phrase in the police, "The Job's ******!" P. Cheers I'd think long and hard before you ditch study. I left school as soon as I could, after originally planning to do A Levels then Uni. I left after O Levels and regretted it ever since. I'm not saying that getting qualified is an automatic passport to a great job, but it must increase your options - I'm sure it would have increased my options if I hadn't been in such a tear-arsing rush to get a job
