petera
Went out yesterday and at about 7:30 in the morning there were about 150 pigeons on the rape. Crept up behind the hedge and shot 2 immediatly. Set up the decoys and as I was putting up the hide a few pigeons were already trying to land amongst them. Decoyed in about 7 others immediately but after this it was very slow as soon as I shot they just moved a few hundred yards away and had to wait quite a while before they came back. Ended the day after about 3 hours with 27. Went out early this morning and couldn't believe how many pigeons were about. The most pigeons I have ever seen in the air at once. At one stage there must have been over 500 in the air. Unfortunatey they were feeding about 3 fields away and I was at the extreme of my shoot. At one stage they all took to the air at the same time and even at this distance there was an almighty 'whoosh' as they all got into the air together. Could not decoy them into the rape as they stayed about 4 fields away whch looked looked like it was still stubble. Stood in the flight line and still managed to pick up 19 as they flew over. Country Boy
Been out for 3 hours today, not even a seagull in the sky Obviously the birds were out before you arrived and/or after you had left Were you expecting to find them on rape, because they have gone back onto any left wheat stubbles, late corn drillings and to the woods which are full of fruit and their preferred diet of nuts and acorns If the weather was cold, really cold, then for sure the pigeons would be flocking onto their favourite main course of oilseed rape - tha knows

Country Boy
The trick then is to go sit under an oak tree That's not the complete answer, you won't shoot much at all they will just clear off, but if someone could be stationed nearby to see which rape or stubble field they head for you might just create some traffic back and fourth:yes: Alternately if you are alone, put some banger ropes close to the oak trees and set up on the stubble
Chess
Doesnt seem weve had a good crop of acorns or beech this year which is a good thing for us but perhaps not so good for mr pigeon
