Jim Neal Posted October 5, 2022 Report Share Posted October 5, 2022 I recall reading an explanation/theory of how the n-word was adopted by the African-Americans into their own common parlance. It was something along the lines of this: By using the word themselves to refer to each other, they were taking it away from the white man as a way of insulting them, so when they heard the word it was just normal to them and had little impact. At some point along the way it ended up being spelled with an 'a' at the end instead of 'er'. I don't know how accurate this is but I see the logic in it.
