London Best
I have heard this week that a day’s shooting I have booked for my regular team towards the end of January now may, or may not, go ahead as the shoot has bird flu. The ‘keeper reckons he might have picked up around 40% of the birds released. He says that if we manage to shoot we can perhaps expect to shoot maybe 50% of the bag we agreed, but obviously he does not expect us to pay any more than the 50% deposit already paid. How fair is that from a man who is likely bankrupt? When I relayed the news to my team of guns the response from every single one was, “we need to support the industry, tell him I don’t want any money back even if we can’t shoot at all”. This is in North Leicestershire. Edited November 20, 2022 by London Best

macca2017
I understand its only a small minority of shoots which have been effected, most will get through the season. The major concern is next season, was discussing this with a breeder/shoot owner this weekend. He has to make a decision in the next few weeks, does he shoot all is birds out now and get cash in now? or leave them to catch up for next seasons breeding, with the risk of having thousands of birds he can't release/sell next season? Wouldn't like to be in his shoes.

We had another confirmed case in Norfolk last week , it seem as if it has slowed up buy haven't completely gone away , no more cases on our estate so hopefully we will see the season out and have a rethink once this season is over . 243deer
Lets hope that those birds that have survived now have improved immunity so that folk that try catching up get some reward for their efforts
