islandgun
Thought this looked quite promising. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64248564
RyanMc
The biggest issue is the storage of a sizable quantity of fuel onboard at the correct temperatures (liquid form is in the VERY low minus degrees) and under serious pressure. The energy density is good, its the storage and fuel creation being the biggest hurdle.
pigeon controller
I think I’ve mentioned this before, in the 80s I was running a warehouse in Coventry for BL ltd and we had a mini come in from the Longbridge plant in Birmingham. This mini was constantly dribbling water out of the exhaust. Following the question we were told it was running on Hydrogen.
oowee
When I was working on the EV strategy for UK. Nissan, Renault and BMW both partners had hydrogen solutions for passenger vehicles pencilled in for post 2050. I would make sense to start with vehicles that need the greatest energy density like trucks buses and tractors.

7daysinaweek
Many years back I spoke about this with my brother in law who works for BP, he said in round about words that since his employment with them from the early 90's that they demonstrated a somewhat robust and ruthless approach to any emerging technology that threatened fossil fuels. He said they would buy the small companies and patents up rapidly as this protected the fossil money invested and they then also owned that technolgy from greener initiatives for when they became more adopted for the future. We have not spoke about it for years now but he said it was rife in the nineties. Look at the video below for the JCB company hydrogen jcb machines.
